10-year anniversary at work - an appropriate gift?

I run a small business and have one employee who's been with me nearly 10 years. I'd like to do something to mark the occasion, but not sure what. What do other companies do? Not necessarily for 10 years, any kind of anniversary or perhaps a retirement present might give me ideas.

Carriage clocks always seemed to be a common retirement present for some reason. I suppose it was to remind the retiree that time was running out - I always thought it was a bit cruel :D

£250 for them to do what they want with and a £50 gift for them to keep (ie an engraved plate or something)
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

4 people on the ignore list....Bliss!
  • Firstly send them a letter of Redundancy on Monday as a joke - leave them for a day or so to ponder then follow up with a gift the next day and tell them the good news.

    I've been Money Tipped!
How about an extra day of leave and an "eperience" voucher for something the employee would enjoy - a spa day / golf day / meal for two or whatever?

I'd certainly value a "bonus" day off more than a straight forward gift to be honest.

how about organising a day out/overnight stay for them
obviously what that is depends on the person and your budget
eg it could be one of those driving days or the like (for me if your buying ;)

My son got a certificate and a pen for long service, only five years, but at his company that's a long time.

a well known entertainments retailer sent my assistant manager at the time a personalised bottle of champagne marking his 10 years service, very classy.
