Thanks Zo, what sort of prices were you paying for the trips? Particularly the Pyramids and Nile pls

I did a coach trip which is a pain but it's the only way I could afford it for me & the 2 kids, it was £100 (£40 per adult £20 per child) including the Egyptian museum in Cairo, lunch on the Nile, visit to the perfume and papyrus place and the pyramids. The boat ride I actually got free because the coach was stuck in traffic after the museum! It's only about £10 per person anyway though.

The quad biking might not sound good but I loved it, you go for 2 hours, stop at echo mountain for a drink then go a bit further then on the way back stop at a beduoin tent for Egyptian tea with the locals, £20 per person.

I booked through sharmexcursions.com before I went, paid about a tenner deposit then they meet you at your hotel to collect the rest and give you a receipt and tell you the arrangements.

You might be able to get it cheaper through another company though, have a look on Tripadvisor.

Thanks! Any tips on good places to book the holiday through? I was looking through jet2holidays but my friend is now finding some great deals around £280 on teletext!

No not really, sorry. I booked the holiday village through First Choice because I was taking the kids. You will probably get a late deal or something.

I would advise you not to book an AI holiday to Egypt for 280 per person the hotel will be horrid

best off looking at £400 plus to get decent standards

You would find you got to the hotel and had to eat out everyday

If you are going AI (and I do recommend it) go for 4* or above. The star ratings are not the same as Europe, you need to downgrade your expectations a bit. You do get what you pay for and tbh there is often not much difference in the cost between 3* & 4*

EDIT - just to echo other posters - do check out hotels on tripadviser before making a decision

With Egypt you must use trip advisor to get an overall opinion on what the hotel is like

This will show you that paying a bit more will make your holiday, some of the 5 star hotels in Sharm are ranked as some of the worst

    Be very cautious

Echoing what everyone else said, even with AI, you do get what you pay for.

I had a very enjoyable AI holiday at the sofitel in Luxor (Sofitel Karnak), which although a 4*, was much nicer than a 5* I went to in hurghada, however a week at that sofitel is now £800, rather than the £400 I paid for a week 4 years ago, i think egypt is not as cheap as it used to be

if you have young children the holiday village at sharm is great kids club etc we went the xmas before booked through first choice done 2 weeks but food gets boring in the 2nd week as its the same
  • We have been to Egypt three times and have done a coach trip to Luxor (from Hurghada booked with Viator) and a one day trip to Cairo by air from Sharm (booked with Sharm-Club.com). I booked the excursions online before leaving the UK. Go to the discussion forums on Tripadvisor for recommendations of other tour agents.
