Cheap short break ...... Dublin????

I need some advice !!!
Myself and OH are looking at a few days away at end of November.
Dont mind where we go, but looking at cheaper the better.
I can fly from Birmingham, or Manchester or Liverpool at a push, leaving on Sunday 28th at the earliest, and returning by Friday 3rd December.
I have seen some cheap flights to Dublin (about £20 inc taxes). Not too sure of where to stay tho, have Tesco vouchers if any places use them, or there are some Travelodge rooms for 39 euro a night.
I am not particularly bothered where we go - our holidays are usually beach ones to Spain, so would like to go somewhere with a bit of character, old buildings, good food and drink, easy reach from airport etc.
Would Dublin suit me, or any other suggestions?
Thanks x

Have a look at the Barcelo hotels in Europe on the tesco clubcard website, you may get some inspiration.
Spending money in Dublin doesn't go very far.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Dublin & cheap do not go well together!
Decent city though0 -
There is nothing cheap about Dublin. I'm told Belfast is good for a weekend away, and there are loads of flights from Birmingham. flybe fly into Belfast City which saves the trek to and from Belfast International. I'll find out for myself if it's all true next month.0

dublin is def not cheap but i go there a lot and stay in ok places
self catering is a good option and if you google
stay dublin apartments are basic but cheap and in good locations they ivy and the albion apartments are in dublin 1 five minutes from oconnel st and henry st and 15 mins from the river where you can go over to temple bar you also have lots of shops markets and a large mini tescos if your self catering 2 mins away you can rent the apartments for 1 night or longer the apartments are basic cheap but in a good location however the weekend are more expensive and may not be worth it mon - thurs is the best deals at under 200 euros for 4 nights for both of you
christchurch apartment are closer (dont bother with millenium apartments as they are crap and nasty imo
you can get the airport bus for 6 euros which goes from the airport to oconnel st and the bus /train station
Good hotels are the jurys in dublin 1 and the jurys at christchurch
or the maldron on parnell square is nice and central Also the ballsbridge group of hotels in D4 i think they are called the towers are nice and you are on the tram line
The clarrion hotle by the ifics (think that right) overlooking the river and the clarion apartments are fab if you can get a good deal the apartments you have to book direct with the hotel
if you go to belfast then the victoria apartments on lisburn rd are excellent for self catering or the days inn hotel which is 30 sec from the bus and train station and all the shops is excellent vfm0 -
As others have said dublin is not cheap - work on spending €5 for a pint of guinness and a minimum of €10 for a standard pub meal as a minimum0

Never considered Belfast before - dont really know much about it if I am perfectly honest. What would be the best things to do there?0

I didn't find Dublin that expensive to be honest. Granted, the ale was a bit steep but that's the same in any major European city. Then again, I tend not to spend that much time in the tourist traps. Last time we went we picked up a three course meal and a drink for €15 a head - not bad for a big city.
We've had some fantastic weekend's in Dublin. In the past, we've stayed at the Clifton House which, whilst not being the Ritz by any stretch, is a cheap hotel in a great location.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. we have done Berlin quite a few times now really cheaply.
Last time we went I managed flights and hotel for 2nights away for £150 and you can eat and drink pretty cheaply whilst your out their.
We flew from EMA and used Booking.com for hotel (we always do tbh) Ryanair do good cheap flights from EMA.
Absolutely love Berlin and the Christmas markets will be on at the time you want to goIt's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0 -
Purplerose - I would reccomend wholehartedly going to Berlin. Hubby and I love it - I would happily emigrate there if we could!
Fab city, the Zoo is worth a visit as is many of the sights - I reccomend the Berlin Top Ten Eyewitness guides book for hints and tips to do - you won't be dissapointed! It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0 -

One of the best weekends of my life was in Belfast. It's such a great undiscovered city and much cheaper than Dublin.
You still need to take a little care of which areas you go to and what conversations you strike up - but as long as you stay in the central areas when in the city and avoid talking politics and religion you'll be fine.
Lots of things to do: http://www.gotobelfast.com/categories/city_breaks.aspx0
