The car showroom says it is because they do not sell many cars.
Undoubtedly because everybody walks out the door when they get told to bring £15k in a bag rather than use a card like they do in every business living in post 1990.0 -
I had no problem paying for my car in May with my CC. AND they didn't charge for any extra.0

I've bought the last three cars on a credit card. Is perhaps the reason they won't because visa etc have withdrawn the facility?
I had a similar problem with a window company. Strangely, when I said that the deal was off and walked away they magically became able to take a payment on a card allowing me the s75 protection.
I'd suggest you do the same, if they won't take a payment by card, walk.0 -
Firstly if they were willing to take £14.5K in cash can you let the local drug baron know so that he can use the garage to launder his ill gotten gains......HMRC when they audit the garage will want to know why they accepted such a large sum in cash as it goes against all the money laundering regulations.
Secondly if they will accept a cheque and let you talk the car there and then without it clearing, then whats to stop you cancelling the cheque after you've picked up the car? Most garages will accept a cheque but only let you take the car once its cleared.
Some places have a limit you can pay on a CC due to the charges (unless you are prepared to pay the CC charge).
Any garage worth going to will let you pay by debit card no problems.
Sounds very weird / strange myself2014 Target;

Have you done a HPI Check on this car??
To me it all sounds fishy.... far too fishy.
I would walk away.
What are you going to do if you find out it is stolen/clocked/ringer? Where is your trail of evidence? is the cheque being made out to a VAT registered Garage or Mr Smith?
What if he says you can take it but come the day, "I've just go to MOT it/ Service it/ Tax it for you so give me the cash and come back in 3 days to pick it up?0 -
I bought my wife a car with a debit card no probs,can you name the dealer?0

Thats not the point though and i wish people would stop mentioning this about other dealers.
The dealer and anyone selling anything can decide whether they want to have the facility to accept cards or cheques(which a lot of places now dont accept) or plain cash. That is their prerogative. If you dont want to deal with them in this way then dont. You have choices in life."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
I have bought 4 cars using either my credit or debit cards. In one case the dealer told me he would have to charge me the extra 2% for a card charge - which I was happy to do for the protection I got. If they won't accept a card just buy the car elsewhere.0

Whilst I agree with your comments the plain fact of the matter is that it is extremely suspect that a garage (that deals in high ticket items such as £14.5K cars) won't accept card payments but are happy for someone to walk in with a tesco bag full of £20 notes.
I'm sure the authorities would be interested to know this as it is a money launderer's dream venue.2014 Target;
