Relocate Gas Boiler to Loft

Just got a quote back to relocate our existing condensing gas boiler from our downstairs kitchen to loft (small terrace house). Boiler is a Worcester RD532.

Came in at £2.5K inc vat. Includes new flue, remote programmable room thermostat, frost stat, 2 radiator thermostat valves, chemical flush on complete and corrosion inhibitor.

Was a bit higher than I was expecting, what do you think. Sure I read somewhere on here someone had the same ish job, with a brand new boiler for for around £2k ish.

Really depends on how much work is involved i.e. pipe work, flue but 2500 seams a high???? You could prob get new cheap boiler installed at that price but depends on what part of the country your in and how busy people are.....
Parts and materials even with new boiler around £1k to 1.5 K really depends on where they buy, how often, what specials are available... Get other quotes to inlude new boiler and move ext

Seems very high to me, but then we don't know how or where the gas pipe is going to have to be run, increase in size of it etc etc.

Even so I can't see it being more than a couple of days work for one man.

Are you sure they haven't mis-quoted and included a new boiler?

Get at least 2 other quites and check out their previous work . Ask them for references. Or if you have a certified scheme in your area check that out too.

Quote is for 2.5 days labour for 2 people. In in East London/Essex border. Gas pipe needs running all the way up. However cold water pipe is already up into loft (from when water tank used to be there). They put cost down to roof work for flue, running condensate pipe down to drain and just sheer labour. Parts wise they don't quote much, £150 remote stat, £150 flue kit, £150 ish for magnaclean etc.

Yeah I thought it was a bit on the high side, after reading other peoples quote for work on here. Been really struggling to get quotes for this job, had 3 people turn their nose up at it, either not recommending it, or only want to do work if I buy a new boiler; had one chap not even show up to give quote (and he was recommended). Hacking me off a bit. I'll keep trying other people.

I'm afraid the rd532 exceeds the safe weight for a loft installation, unless it's a converted loft with proper stairs.

This is intriguing. Do you have anymore info on this,or pointers to where I can read up more on this?

Perhaps you could provide a link to the official reg on this, or tell us what document this is written in, or is it a 'company' Health & Safety guideline.

I remember it from the installation guide that came with the boiler.

Dunno, where you read that, but in the manual I've found here: http://www.luk.net/VirtualBoiler/index_start.html
Page 21, it reads:- ( or page 14, of the printed manual that came with mine )

Additional requirements for roof space installation:-
+ The boiler should be unpacked before ascending ladder to loft space
+ Two sets of steps should be used.
+ Two people should share the lifting of the boiler up to the loft hatch, where the boiler is entered into the loft space tilted and slid on its back in the loft.

No mention of loft installed, not allowed, too heavy, needing stairs or what have you.
Granted it maybe a bit of leg work, with it weighing in at 48.5Kg, but not insurmountable.
