Relocate Gas Boiler to Loft

Indeed but GSIUR Para 28 is quite clear that:No mention of loft installed, not allowed, too heavy, needing stairs or what have you.
Granted it maybe a bit of leg work, with it weighing in at 48.5Kg, but not insurmountable.
That really does mean, to all intents and purposes, that a permanent ladder to the roofspace is required as is boarding the area around the boiler and the access route to it from the hatch to provide a safe working environment and some permanent illumination.No person shall install a gas appliance except in such a manner that it is readily accessible for operation, inspection and maintenance.
So although a ladder etc isn't actually a regulation it really is needed to meet the SHALL requirement as stated above.
Its also wise to have a isolation valve for your gas in a readily accessible place downstairs and also your filling loop and associated pressure guage also located downstairs.

And to the letter of the regs, a ridiculous safety guard of some type around the loft hatch.
I've yet to see one though and would not entertain fitting one either.0 -
Oh, so we're on about suitable flooring, perm light, fixed ladder and guard rail. Yep, already been informed about all of this on a couple of other threads. All fine with that. I've already installed a permanent strip light, covered about 2/3 of the loft with flooring (will do rest in next couple of days) and have got a pull down ladder ready to install. Not got bits for guard rails, but I'm sure I could sort that out.
Nickb1's original post sounded like I'd have to do a full loft conversion with a stair case leading up.
As for isolation valve, we have the gas meter with an off lever in a cupboard in kitchen, so that should suffice.0 -

A guard rail is a bit OTT TBH.
A full loft conversion with fixed staircase isn't necessary IMHO.
My suggestion for gas isolation and water replenishment arrangements downstairs are for convenience more than anything else.

Well, recommended gas chap 1 failed to turn for a second time for quote - shall write him off. Got another recommendation coming tonight, see what they say. Also the conservatory firm, have their fav plumber too, no harm getting quote from them too.
Yeah, if I can get away without guard rail, that would make life easier. The one gas chap, reckoned much of this is purely to satisfy new boiler warranties as manufacturer engineers will insist on this stuff for a call out. Whereas this local plumber wasn't so fussed and happily work on a boiler without all this.
That said, decent flooring, ladder and light, do make a lot of sense and little hassle/cost to sort out. Very handy to organise all the crap we've got stored up there. A pull down ladder, will make it easier to get up there, and we've had the current ladder just propped up on the landing, not great with kids about...
Be good to get that out of the way into shed. 0 -
As said, I have yet to see a guard rail or even fit one.
My opinion is that if you are clumsy and stupid enough to fall out of the loft through the loft hatch, then you shouldn't be up there in the first place, and any guard rail you install woudn't stop you falling through either.

Ok, had some progress. A friend whose a property developer, recommended his gas chap. He came round at short notice last night, came back this morning with quote of £1100, which is much, much better. So booked him in for next week. At least we're getting somewhere.
