Fiesta and two children

I don't think I should be buying a car with the intention of ferrying other people's kids around, plus I should think it is out of my price range.
My daughter is 2 next month and I am due in November. Preschool and school are walkable distances and I would be happy to walk home with my neighbour's children.
If I can't find a buggy to fit in the fiesta, I was thinking more along the lines of a focus, but nothing bigger!
:T:T:T For not running out and buying a people carrier just because your going to have more than 1 child!!;):D
We have 2 kids now and a 3 door fiesta.... shock horror!:p I will admit we're looking for a 4 door BUT sticking to fiesta, focus etc.BLOWINGBUBBLES:kisses2: SMARTIE120 -
I had 3 kids in a fiesta and could fit a tandem in the boot (but that would take up most of the room) - we only upgraded to a 7 seater last week because no. 4 is due next month
Editted to say we had the 2004 shaped one, which looked wider by a tad0 -

As you have two children, there is a strong likelihood you will be having friends back to play, etc.
While it seems a long way off, my youngest is 3 and other child 6 and I have been needing a people carrier for the last two years to fit in with helping with school runs, after school clubs etc.
I have a Ford KA with just 4 seats (although only one child at school) and all dd's friends have 5 seater cars except one who has a people carries but has taken two of the seats out anyway.
All her friends have at least one sibling too.
I can honestly say we all manage just fine - no need for a people carrier at all.
As for fitting into a fiesta, we once went camping in ours with three children, one still in a baby seat and two pre-teens, plus all the gear, although we had a roof box as well. It was an older shape but they do seem to hold a lot of stuff.
When my older two were babies, I had a tandem pushchair that was more bulky than today's pushchairs and it fitted in the boot easily.
Didn't leave room for a weekly shop though, to be fair...
It's easier to have a slightly bigger boot imo, for times when you need the pushchair and other things in the boot so I'd go up one size if it were me.
It's when you go Christmas shopping, or away for a weekend, or whatever, that the extra room will come in handy imo.0 -
I had a 3dr 03reg Fiesta until July when I switched to a 5dr 54reg Fusion. It's slightly higher than the Fiesta and seems to have a lot more boot space - couldn't get more than a couple of carrier bags in the boot when the pushchair was in the Fiesta but can get the pushchair and at least eight bags of shopping in the Fusion
Not sure when the first Fusions came out - my 54reg was £4.5k (from a main dealer) as a guide. 0 -
Hi I have a small 1 litre corsa and this buggy http://www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-MPV-Double-Stroller-Red/dp/B001CBYBY2/sr=1-6/qid=1285956922/ref=sr_1_6/276-2014638-8808764?_encoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42804041&mcb=core
fits really well in the boot with room for shopping/luggage too.
I really recommend it.

not a mum yet but if we are purely talking boot size why not borrrow a friends double buggy and go to a showroom and try it.
if its a fiestra you want and it fit thats gd.
i would not think you should need a people carrier for you oh and two children
i babysit my nieces and nephews a lot so have two bulky car seats in my car i have an avensis and its a perfect size loads of space in the back front and boot.
i would suggest that yoy get 4/5 door to help with strapping kids in, never liked leaning in back when i had my 3 dr car.
i would say focus would be step up in size but the next option i would say for space would be an astra or vectra great reliable family cars
best wishes for you and your family:A VK :A0 -
When we were looking for a replacement car I took DSs' huge sports bags with us to experiment with fitting them in the boots of possible cars. None of the sales assistants were at all phased by the request. I suspect people try out their luggage problems all the time in showrooms.
Good luck!0 -
Had to respond due to the comment about the front seat maybe not being suitable for a rear facing child seat - i too have seen that sticker thing in cars but as far as i am aware its in relation to the air bag as if you have an airbag in the front passenger side you have to disable this to have a rear facing child seat due to safety issues. Not sure of the in's and out's but bassicly i think it knocks the seat in a way that the baby may get crushed.
Good luck with the pregnancy and the car hunt

We have a fiesta and a meriva (vauxhall). I recently swaped my old (dying) meriva for a new one. I thought about geting another fiesta or a corsa as I no longer needed to fit a buggy in the boot, however, my mum pointed out that as my girls are 4 and 7 and will only be getting bigger that a 2nd fiesta may not be a wise idea.... If they wanted friends round to play it might be a bit of a squeeze. If we go on holiday the luggage wouldn't all fit. If (god forbid) well fell pregant again another car seat wouldn't fit!!! etc...
I don't class a meriva as a people carrier. Its just a large family car with plenty of space - and definately room for a double buggy plus shopping!! They don't cost the earth either. I paid less than £8000 for a 7 month old one.
A fiesta would be fine with 2 children, maybe even a double buggy in the boot, but could you also get a weekly shop in there? What about a holiday with a double buggy and travel cot and suitcases etc...0 -
I had a Fiesta and loved it but it eventually had to go as it was costing more than it was worth to fix it. I have three children and their ages as the time were 11, 9 and 6. My husband pointed out that it was getting a bit cramped in the back re leg room. So I went out looking at cars, first port was people carriers and the only ones I liked were the Chrysler Grand Voyager and the Sedona, reason, they both had boots - non of the people carriers have much boot space when all seven seats in use and I also like the seat configuration. Anyway decided why should I pay extra to ferry other peoples kids around.
So here was my wish list.
Automatic (dodgy knee - in hindsight would not have bothered with Automatic)
Three individual seats in the back, each must have a three point seat belt.
Cruise Control
Stereo control on steering wheel
Air Conditioning
Flat floor in rear - no one has the uncomfortable hump
Arm rests in front.
Large Boot
Rear seats can be moved forwards and backwards,
All rear seats can be tipped up or even removed completely to make the rear into an estate type car
Flat floor bed for ease of putting things in the boot
Did I mention the massive boot.
I can't think of anything else but the answer was a Citroen Xsara Picasso
Just wish I had waited for the C4 to come out and also had not bothered with the automatic as that makes it really juicy.
It is an excellent car for a family, we have driven to the South of France in it twice now. Really as a family car it ticks all the boxes.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far
+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.
Terramundi weighs 8lb 5oz0
