Statement through from Egg and they are still adding on interest and late payment fees , currently totalling £500 , but I have received a letter from them stating that my Egg card has been cancelled in accordance with their terms and conditions .
I am hoping this means they will now stop adding interest and late fees on to the bill because the bill is increasing by £40 a month due to the charges being much greater than the payment they receive .
I presume the account will now be passed to a debt agency and I will be dealing with them ?0 -
Sorry to hear of your good nature being taken advantage of. Hope that you can sort things out with the backing of CCCS. have you done a finance check, that all of your utilites and insurances are with the cheapest people. If you save some money this could be the basis of the emergency fund:D
I found when I was cutting back that the easiest place to do it was to get creative in the kitchen. by cooking more from scratch, batch cooking etc I could shave £100 a month of my shopping bill. Would that be something you could tackle? And that was £100 just off food. It didn't include the savings I made on cleaning products and other stuff. If you go to the moneysaving old style forum, they have loads of ideas, for both feeding people cheaply and keeping house cheaply too.
good luck
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

I have changed my utilities several times in the last couple of years but to be honest there are so many different tariffs that I probably am not on the cheapest rate . I am now with the same company for both fuels and on an online tariff but my electricity is in debit whilst the gas in credit but not for as much as the debit !!Sorry to hear of your good nature being taken advantage of. I do try to change regularly but like to pay a set amount each month for ease of monthly bills but I find all the companys tell me they can save me money !!!
With regards to insurance , the car insurance is definately always the best deal I can get but my house insurance has always been with the same company so when it expires I will find the best price whilst my "personal?" insurances have been with the same company for 8 years and I have looked into changing but I find that the cover offered now is worse than what I originally got , the conditions covered by critical illness etc , but again I am looking into do I need all the cover I have got ?
With regards to shopping , well thanks to this board we are doing a monthly online shop for all the cupboard food and topping up weekly with perishables and this is saving money as we buy what we need now and are not tempted by the offers :T0 -
Fingers crossed good news on the car front . According to the scanner it is an oxygen cylinder fault that has been thrown up by the computer which costs £120 for a replacement but the mechanic has checked for a head gasket and it doesnot appear to be that . He also says that the car is ok to drive and if the fault doesnot reappear then there is no need to replace the part but if the fault reappears do the job . So for now it hasnot cost me anything , yessss !!!
I've also rang CCCS with regards to First Direct putting my debt to them over to a debt agency and have given them the details and that is all I need to do for now , they will contact them and explain the situation and amount I can afford and that is that . Whether they accept this or not I don't know but there is nothing else I can do and at least it should go quiet from them for a few months , hopefully .0 -
Bad day yesterday . Firstly it was pay day , normally the best day of the month , but this month my pay is very low so another tough month ahead . Then to top off the day , whilst driving home , the warning light reappears on the dash board so it looks like the car needs a new oxygen cylinder and a bill of about £120 . Already struggling for the next 5 weeks , feeling very low about it all , when will it take a turn for the better .0

Booked car in for Wednesday , fingers crossed it's only £120 !!!!0

Well car fixed hopefully , a new oxygen filter was put on but due to the car being sluggish a new coil was put on one of the cylinders , total cost £160 . On driving home the same light came back on the dash so back I went but it appears the computer system didnot realise the fault was fixed . The car has also had something added to the fuel to clean the injection system and having been for a drive this morning it all seems to be ok . Fingers crossed that is an end to the problems , financially they are still there but can do without car playing up . Anyway back to work today for the weekend so I won't be thinking about money for a few days .0

Good luck Andy!
As well as cutting costs that others are soundly recommending, don't forget to look at your incomings.
Is there any way you could increase your earning power? A different job, missing benefits, take qualifications etc. You've probably thought them through already but if you can add to income whilst reducing spending it will make double difference.0
