Vodafone - Do they really want my business

I'm at the end of my current contract and would like to upgrade to a different phone, Galaxy S or HTC Desire. I currently have 700 mins, 300 txts and internet access. I also have 3 other Vodafone contracts in my name for my children. They are not at all interested in any sort of incentive to keep my contract with them, only offering the standard £30 / month deals for 600 mins etc. Rubbish.

What about rewarding customer loyalty? 4 contracts must count for something! Other networks offer better deals, but not the same coverage in our area.

Patience getting thin, may compromise on the lesser reception.

Anyone else experienced this lack of interest in existing Vodafone customers?

It's not just vodafone. Most mobile operators won't offer anything for loyalty these days. At the moment it's like it or lump it, there are some deals but nothing as great as they used to be.

Margins are thin, that it's not worth it. If you and your four contracts leave odds are someone on o2 will have the same issue and port to Vodafone.

Vodafone may not be the cheapest but the network is probably the better out of the mobile networks, but of course it all depends where you live / work / play as to whats best for you.

This is very true. If you rarely go significantly over your monthly tariff and with margins so small, then the network will know that they are unlikely to make any money out of you. And when the handset in question is an expensive one that is in demand, the network would be crazy to make a loss on your account.

Personally, I always approach this sort of thing by seeing how much I can afford each month for a mobile, working out what features I need, working out how many calls/texts etc I need and use that to make a short list of handsets and providers.
I can then narrow it down by considering factors like coverage, customer service, real world reviews of the handset etc.
Take advantage of the fact that the new network doesn't know that you aren't going to make them a profit and be prepared to switch around like you would with other services.

Who are 'they'? If you're talking to regular Customer Services, they have very little they can offer outside of the standard tariffs.

Retentions on the other hand and even more so outgoing retentions (if they still exist for VF) are able to offer better deals.

There is virtually none. If they can't make money out of you, there is no point in having you as a customer.

    Good morning surfing-mtber,

I work at Vodafone on behalf of the Web Relations Team and noticed your post while doing my rounds today. It's unfortunate that you don't find much value in the plan offered by our upgrades team for your line.

While there isn't a huge difference in some of the tariffs available between upgrading and new connection customers, we will alsways endeavour to do our best to save you the customer money on your line as well as protect our business interests.

Here's a quick nugget from a post I did the other day in our Retentions Thread:

"It can be confusing sometimes to see so many different options and quotes for different customers. Since August, we've rolled out a much more elaborate upgrading tool to our sales channels.

This programme allows us to look into individual accounts with much more detail. Customers with higher bill usage in the past, a longer history, the way they use their inclusive allowances, better payment scheduling or those using self help service like the eForum or My Account sections of the website will get the best value possible. This lets us recognise our true champion customers and reward them with some stunning offers"

If you'd like to get in touch with me to see if there really is anything else I can do, use our Contact Us Page and I'll give you a call :)

    Kind regards,

    Ben Haslehurst
