Cooker keeps tripping the fuse

The cooker in my new house blew the fuse (is that how you say it?!?) last week. My Oh replaced the fuse in the plug but it has gone again within 10 minutes of the cooker being turned on................... any ideas?

Thanks

Fuses are there to protect you - as the cooker is obviously faulty the only thing you can do is get it checked out by a qualified electrician.

After the first fuse was replaced how many rings (if any) were you using, was the oven on etc before the second fuse blew.

Can you tie the blowing fuse down to one particular ring only, or to the oven only etc

If you can do this then you may be able to repair by replacing the faulty ring element or the faulty oven element etc as determined by your testing

Armed with half a dozen fuses and a spare hour, you may narrow down your problem to one specific area

this seems to sort of tie up with your other problem, that "fishy" smell in some rooms that we all seem to think is electrical ,

perhaps it's the cooker cable thats at fault

  • Electric Cookers should have their own dedicated circuit and should not be on a plug!

Are you sure that your electric cooker is on a plug or did you mean electric oven?

It is common practice to wire single electric ovens to a plug and socket as long as they are < 3 KW
  • Hi there

It is my electric oven that is attached to the plug and it is only when the oven itself is on that the problem happens. The hob part is ok.
In the plug there is a 13 amp fuse does that sound right?
  • Check the rating plate on the back of the cooker. If it is linked to the fishy smell you will already have damaged the cable and it will have to be replaced.

I have personal experience of an electrical fire, it destroyed the kitchen in less than 5 minutes and took the insurance company 4 months to restore!

When you say "New House" do you mean its a brand new house? If so there should be some warrenty on the oven and installation.
