Wierd Smell

Options
Please dont laugh at this query.......:rotfl: :rotfl: I have recently moved ino my new house and the main bedroom sometimes has a horrible fishy type smell. It is just there for a while then goes away on its own and I cant see (or smell) where its coming from!
Has anyone had this problem before ????
Please if anyone has advice as I will die of embarassment if one of my friends or family smell it when they come to look at my house.

I used to get this in my old house and I found out it was a bakelite (sp?) light fitting - the bit that screws on after the shade is put on, on hanging wire light fittings?

Hope you can understand what I mean :o

Could it be the electrical sockets? I read somewhere that old wiring can smell 'fishy'. Worth checking out.

Thats strange, as i have the same problem with my bedroom. its not too often, but some times i go in there and i can smell it. then it seems to go by itself.
is it a sign of paranormal activity? i hope not!

This type of fishy smell is quite often associated with electrical insulation breaking down - maybe the insulation over cables, or a light fitting etc that bedshaped mentioned

Suggest you get it checked out

We had this problem to in the living room turned out to be the plastic on the light fitting, like bedshaped in post 2, just needed a new one.
  • We also had this. It only started to smell if the light was left on for sometime.

We changed the light fitting and the smell went away.

    Hi,

I think you will find its the light fitting that smells. I had the same problem on my landing. It took me ages to find out what it was. It is a horrible smell though.
