I thought they did too. It takes 3 days to go into your bank and I think now all payments are fortnightly?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Giros are still issued to those without bank/post office accounts. There were plans to phase giros out altogether however no-one's really come up with an adequate alternative for those without accounts.
How long will it take for your first giro ? Local experience tells me anything up to 3 or 4 weeks. If you've run out of funds and are suffering hardship you can apply for a Crisis Loan to tide you over until such time as your benefit comes through.I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
yeh they told me to get a post office account which i am doing now, but they said it would be paid in giros until the account got opened.welshmoneylover wrote: »I thought they done away with giro payments..0 -

I couldn't get a bank account and have always had giros every two weeks for my ESA.
Claimed in October 2009 - the first payment was made in March 2010. They lost three applications + they had a telephone claim showing untrue info. All in all a total of 5 applications made.0 -
 so they mess up a lot then?andyandflo wrote: »I couldn't get a bank account and have always had giros every two weeks for my ESA.

Oh yes!!!
And you never get a straight answer from them. All you are told is to claim a Crisis Loan.
Pension Credit is even worse. Claimed that in October 2009, received my first payment in April 2010, and they have still not sorted out the Mortgage Interest Payments that they owe - home has now gone back to the bank because of it!0 -
I got a giro about a week after I sent my sick note in, I had a normal bank account.
After that it was paid fortnightly on a friday.0 -
what account details do they need for your post office account to pay the money in, is it just the number of the account?
because i have that and my sort code just not the card and pin yet.0 -

They need the sort code, account number and details of the bank.
Mind you without the card & pin will you be able to draw anything out??0
