No wireless connection with a notepad Asus Eee PC 4G

Hi guys I really hope you can help me.

Last year santa delivered a notepad for my daughter. The internection was via Sky broadband which is netgear wireless, everything was working fine.

Recently I purchased my laptop and use the internet wireless, since doing this my daughters will not work in my house. If her notepad is used in a different house using their wireless it works, but not in mine. The notepad also doesn't take a dongle.

My daughter has been sharing my laptop whilst not being able to use hers and gave it a virus .

If anyone can help me restore the wireless to her laptop I would be most greatful.

We get as far as the page saying the connection is pending, but nothing happens, a page then appears saying cannot connect to server.

Please help me I am getting fedup of all the dirty hand prints on my screen :)

Have you changed anything on the Router?

Connect the Netbook via Ethernet cable and download and install any updates available.

Then try again to connect wirelessly.

    If still no go....

Close the wifi connection using Fn+F2 and take a look at the Wireless tab in properties. experiment with the encryption by trying one at a time(WEP, WPA, WPA-TKIP, WPA2) unless you already know the encryption method used by the Netgear router) and entering Wireless key/password . Then turn on the the wifi again by using Fn+F2. So first try WEP, then try to connect. If that doesn't work, move to the next one, WPA....

Let me know if you get stuck. Am just guessing here as I don't really know anything about these machines. :)

Another option, if all else fails, is to install the well supported UBUNTU Netbook
  • Thank you I will give it a try and let you know what happens

    What did you do?
  • The fn+f2 then clicked onto wireless networks and said operation failed, then I looked in the error log.

If there is no important data on the device, just run a Factory Restore. Then connect via Ethernet cable an download and install ALL the updates before trying to connect wirelessly again.
  • What is an ethernet cable? Sorry i am a bit of a dumb dumb with computers

Ethernet Cable There should be one in the box in which the router was supplied. One end in the Router and the other in the Netbook.
