Had the appointment today, quite a placid guy actually, I gave a bit of a brief about lengthy sales pitch as he arrived and the time spent, (just ubder 2 hours ) was actually quite productive and not hard core sales pitch at all.
I actually love the design and products we came up with and price is a staggering 8400.00 with all the b sh*t cut as far as I could assume.
Also had a quote from B&Q 6800.00 with 4500.00 labour and the guy keen to gear me to organise labour myself, again no hard sell, just keen for a sale of the fixtures.
Truth is i loved the dolphin design and materials but it is way over budget,
got one more quote to come from a local fitter and some shopping to do to decide whether to buy materials and get own labour sorted,
Anyone having a bathroom done, keep thread live with quotes opinions and tips...0 -
Small bathroom with standard sraight cut bath, shower over (mixer off combi) clear glass screen. designer sink & loo some box in at end of bath and under sink.
Slate floor tiles with under heating, mosaic tiling to full length around bath half around loo and sink.
Quality taps and central light, removal of all existing (tiles etc) and disposal, making good plaster....0 -
try calling a local company who do property maintenance, DH is a bathroom fitter and sometimes sub contracts to a local firm , the firm then manages the job.
much cheaper than B&Q or Dolphin.
Saying that DH does all you need except the electrics, but uses a local electrician so he does all the leg work not the customer...
try calling around0 -
Good morning: Plan the bathroom and source the materials yourself from plumbers' merchants/independent tile shops etc. if you want to be a full-on MSEr and can't do any of the work yourself: you can find a qualified plumber here www.iphe.org.uk Many plumbers can also work on electrics and self-certify his/her work (eg. my OH is multi-trade)

Hello, does anyone know if Focus are any good for bathrooms?
Thank you0 -
Listen, with bathrooms & kitchens you get what you pay for - I have worked in the trade and can tell you most 'do it all' fitters are crap - and I mean crap! they are jack of all trades they are not great plumbers, they are not great builders and most of them sure as hell are not good tilers!
Whilst I agree that a jack of all trades workman would not be as good as a number of specialists. I don't think that is necessarily what the original poster meant by getting one person in to do the job.
If you get a Bathroom fitting company to do the job they often use individual people to do individual jobs. I had a quote from one company that uses electricians for the electrics, tilers for the tiling and plumbers for the plumbing etc.
So I think its best to check with who you get a quote from as to the labour situation.0 -

We will be having our bathroom done in the next few months. something similar to what you want, the room is only 1.7m square:- Whole new modern/contemporary suite (Bath, toilet, sink)
- Move toilet and taps slightly.
- Install a new Thermostatic Shower (from combi boiler)
- New extractor fan
- New ceiling with spotlamps (just board over the mouldy artex :-)
- New Towel radiator
- Fully tile the floor and walls.
A one man band plumber £5000 plus tiles, plus bathroom suite
Or the way we are going to do it:
Plumber £850
All parts £1500
Tiler £unknown - hoping for £500 as its a small room
Most of the parts are sourced from the internet and from this place:

Good afternoon: Who will be installing the electrical items? A bathroom is a 'special location' .... http://www.iee.org/Publish/WireRegs/WiringMatters/Documents/Issue26/2008_26_spring_wiring_matters_the_17th_edition_launched_bathrooms.pdf
Please make sure you use a 'competent person' to install, test and notify the electrical work. Some(but not all) plumbers can self-certify.
