Ok, so like a majority of us on here, I sprung for a refurb iphone 3gs from o2.
However just received a text that the unlimited data I agreed to was just a promotion and I would be switched onto one of the new tariffs.
Anyone else get this? Think it's a good "let me out of contract" clause?

When did you take out the contract is the key??0 -
Took it out middle of may, no mention to any "promotion" and just spoke to an o2 rep on chat and he went "tough"
*edit* 12th May to be exact!:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -

But what does your contract say?0 -
The promotion i believe is only for customer who took out contracts after 24th June (iphone 4 release date)
As people who took out contract prior to that should keep "unlimited data"
http://blog.o2.co.uk/home/2010/06/offering-fair-and-transparent-access-to-mobile-data.htmlWill customers on old "unlimited" data contracts be forced to move to a capped limit once there minimum term has expired.Posted by: Andrew | 10 June 2010 at 05:15 PMHi Andrew - if you're on an existing contract then you're welcome to stay on that for as long as you like. If you upgrade to a new phone however you would need to move to a new tariff.

I received the text but i'm on a 24 month contract that ends next July 2011.
Even on 02 my statement is 600 mins Unlimited texts Inclusive ITS Unlimited Data & Wi-Fi0 -
damn, talked to a rep who was lovely and understanding (as she was effected by this too!) She basically said it's in the T&C's which it seems she was right...Included Unlimited Wi-Fi and Web Bolt Ons for iPhone Customers only
The Unlimited Wi-Fi and Web Bolt On is included at no extra cost for customers connecting or upgrading to any iPhone tariff until further notice. O2 reserves the right to withdraw or amend this offer at any time on reasonable notice. Participating customers will receive 30 days notice via text message if changes are made to their disadvantage. Excessive usage policy applies see Data Bolt Ons terms below.
Selected devices may be available from O2 with an inclusive Data and Wi-Fi Bolt On. Please note that not all devices can facilitate use by you of the Wi-Fi element of this Bolt On (for reasons including device incompatibility or restrictions upon O2), which may prevent the Wi-Fi service from being available to you.:exclamatiTo the internet.. Hi,
I took my contract out in September 2009....2 year contract....there was never no mention of the data changing down the line etc. I signed to unlimited data! I cant see how phone companies can just change their contract when they like. I have spoke to numerous o2 people through this year regarding this new data plan coming in and like chipofdoom was told that as I was a existing customer I would not be affected.
I only recieved a text this evening that this plan comes in tomorrow......not the 30 days etc. Its discusting...I dont know how I can get out of this, but I wont be mucked about by money grabbing o2.0 -
Panic over!!
Apparently, there was an error and people that shouldn't have got the texts did indeed get them!!
They have extended the unlimited data "promotion" for customers who signed up/upgraded from 24th June 2010 to 7th October as there has been a lot of confusion (and error in sending texts out), and the staff are currently being handed a 7-odd page handout that explains it all.
Anyone who had an O2 deal on 23rd June 2010 or before is OK, however don't change your plan otherwise you'll get the new limits. If anyone at O2 says otherwise, they're talking b*llocks.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
I signed up on Dec 15th last year. Checking the My O2 page, it still shows my data as being unlimited. I've put in a copy of what it says in the "manage my bolt ons" section
You can now manage your Bolt Ons online
What you've got and when it expires.
Bolt On Cost Status End date
Unlimited Anyone UK Texts Free Active No end date
iPhone Web Bolt On Free Active No end date
Unlimited WiFi Free Active No end date
Picture Messaging Enabled Free Active No end date
If you signed up from 24 June 2010, data tariffs and Bolt Ons will have a generous monthly data allowance with an unlimited data promotion until 30 September 2010. See more details.0
