Paid on time but still incurring fee!

Hi guys, im new to all this, just wondering if anybody could offer me advice.

My payment for my credit card due date was 17th September. I made a payment in full to my credit card company on 17th September at the bank.

However, they are insisting that the payment is late and charging me a late fee of £12.

Firstly considering it was £29.23 that i was paying off in full, i think the late payment charge is unreasonable.

Secondly I think this is unfair. it states clearly on the statement that the payment due date was on 17th september, which I paid on time. Their arguement was it look 3 days to get it into their account, therefore i have incurred a late fee.

Is it me or does this seem misleading to say that payment is due on a particular date yet when I paid on said date they're still charging me late fee?

Someone please help me out. I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you!!

  • Sorry I would like to say the cc is at fault but you have only yourself to blame in this instance. You pay the money via your bank on the 17th but as far as the cc is concerned the payment is late because it is not shown on your statement. Also if you read the terms and conditions it cleary states the times it takes for a credit to reach your cc account.

I think on this occasion you can only put it down to experience. Give yourself a break from all this grief and set up a direct debit for the min. payment.

The payment due date is the date the money needs to reach your account, not the day you physically payed the money. As they say, it takes a few days for the money to reach your account.

As Rupert Bear says, it states on your credit card statement how long it takes for payments to show on your account - all mine say 4 working days for payments made in the bank. You live and learn.
  • You could try asking them to waive the fee this time (if first time its happened) - they may say no but no harm in asking. What you are better asking though is asking if they would not put a late payment marker on your file as this is pretty important too.

Like others have said, you should have paid it earlier.

But I do agree that if it is the first time then they may refund the charge, particularly if you have a been a responsible customer before.

Have a word and see what they say and then let us know who and how you got on as it may be of use to other members.

why didn't you pay it earlier, you normally get about three weeks from receiving the statement to when you have to pay, why wait till the last day? the credit card are within their rights to charge.

It is not unfair - you did not pay on time.

The due date means that the payment has to be with them and cleared by that date, not that you can go and initiate the payment on that date.

As you have found it, certain types of transactions can take many days to clear and be with the company you are paying.

If you ask them nicely then they might refund the charge, but they are under no obligation to do so.

I'm sorry to say but you're all wrong. With all Lloyds credit cards you can pay over the counter at a Lloyds branch before close of business on the card due date and the funds WILL be credited the day they are paid without exception. I've been doing it for the past 10 years at least, not once has the payment been late, not once a late fee, not once a late marker. Inside info helps ;)
There are a few other cards with differing payment methods where this is also possible.

Which leads me to jonesMUFCforever whose remark about the first time poster is very apt, because it infers just what I'm thinking - TROLL !!!

There is no way on earth a charge would be forthcoming because of what I've said above !

Exel, that may be true if the credit card and the bank are the same, but the OP doesn't state this.
