My eldest was only 4 weeks old on his first Christmas. He just got a few rattle type toys and a baby gym.

My youngest was 10 months. He was noisy and got some hand held musical instruments like tiny cymbals and bells. He loved those best! They also got some Brio train set pieces between them, which was an excellent investment. They're 9 and 7 now, and still play with it.
Here I go again on my own....

We didn't buy much for dd's first Crimbo, she was only 8 weeks.

Even the christmas after,we bought very little and kept the money in the bank for later in the year- we knew other people would spoil her.

Her first few Christmasses we opened one present every hour.

And btw- a big TV sized box with archways etc. cut out in advance, filled with balloons and just a few little treats, then wrapped is a great gift for an under three.:D

My son will have his 2nd birthday 10 days before xmas - so im being really stingey as the 2 are so close together. My daughter turns 1 , 4 weeks before xmas so same applies!!! Expensive few weeks at xmas time. I have asked all relatives to consider giving the kids just money at xmas (maybe not the 4 yr old as he can appreciate gifts more). All their money is put in a savings account to go towards driving lessons/1st car!!!

We got my daughter a first steps baby walker one of the ones that the front comes off and you can lay it on the floor and it plays music with lots of buttons etc. She was only 4 months old last Christmas but loved it and now at 13 months old is loving pushing it around. She was given, clothes, bedding etc all the practical things.

Now we tend to just get her things from the car boot as things are getting tighter. Got her a rocking horse type thing for her birthday in August, its a caterpillar I think it plays twinkle twinkle little star and is really bright colours its from mamas & papas RRP £60 we got it for £3 and she loves it suitable up to age 3!

It's definetly worth going to your local carboot as they outgrow toys so quick and they can very expensive in shops.

DD was 10mth at Axas. We have a large family ( well husband does) so they bought loads, but I bought lots of bits and bobs, she showed more interest unwrapping but to be honest it was mostly me doing the unwrapping. I bought her clothes for winter but wrapped them so under the tree looked cool, and a 4 toys rainging form £7 -£10. She still palys with them now as I bought 12-18mths range.

TBH I don't think this Xmas will really be that different she is approaching 2 so will prob show an interst this year in the xmas tree, but not sure if she will be intersted in pressies. I will wrap the ironing basker I think as she loves this and plays in it all the time.

My DS was 6 DAYS old on his first christmas! Choatic time but loved every second of it! Only left hospital on Christmas eve afternoon so the stuff he had was things that i had bought him before he had even arrived! He got a baby gym (as knew we would be buying him one eventually), cuddly toys, teething rings, loads of baby's first christmas things. Everyone else went mad with clothes and toys!

Now birthdays and christmas are a nightmare! We need to clear out the house just before every year to find room to store 2 X all the pressies! lol We buy stuff we know he is into, split it into 3 piles. Bday, Santa stuff and mummy and daddy stuff.

Family are pretty good tho, they tend to ask what he wants, my parents do a huge gift bag of clothes, books and puzzles for bday and toys for Christmas. Of course DS finds one thing he likes, opens the rest for fun and goes back to the first toy he opened!!

is it difficult having birthday and xmas so close to each other, my mate was born in Dec and was always feeling short changed as people tendned to buy one pressie for both occassions.
  • DS will be 10 months at Christmas, and we have got him all his presents (bought a different item every month since he was born, now we are buying a gift every month for his birthday)- they are things that will do him throughout the next year, deliberately picked things with a 1 - 3 year age range, and none of them have been expensive as we have been grabbing bargains as we see them. I have to agree with everyone on the packaging, my little one loves playing with envelopes, and I imagine Christmas will be the same!!!
