Does a cheap ring look 'cheap'

hey i think you need to do what you feel most comfortable with, i am working with early years children too and have said to my other half i want a cheaper ring ie 250 max as i dont want to damage/ lose it and have to buy another exspensive replacement. As long as it's special to you thats what matters. I think if you ree a reasonable priced diamond ring don't discard that option but cubic zircrona can look just as prettyA big thank you to all those who post on the forum and make it a worthwhile place!!!:j0

My OH bought me a zirconia one from Argos, for £30 and everyone said they couldn't tell the difference and thought it was diamond.
I now have my "real" diamond one, and when I had them both you could really really tell a big difference.
I have kept my cheapo one and I will wear it on occasions when I would otherwise be worried about losing/damaging my diamond one.
I only had a diamond one because (his words) I'm "Never ever getting another diamond that big in my life!"First date 10.2.2002

My OH bought me a ring with an amethyst as I'm mad about all things purple. Its quite large - not what I'd have chosen tbh lol - and it took me a while to get used to the size. I didnt even question the stones but he told me the 6 surrounding it are CZ and not diamond but I wouldnt know, and if anybody else has noticed they're too polite to say
It doesn't matter one iota to me - it's what it represents that's important and as he proposed on a surprise holiday to Switzerland at the top of the Jungfrau mountain, overlooking the Eiger I can still say I got engaged with an enormous rock

seriously they is no comparison with a CZ and a diamond. A jeweller can tell the difference between diamonds but anyone with eyesight can detect CZ from a diamond EASILY...no point lying
I can't unless they are together.
My ring is diamond and sapphire and cost £135 in a sale (I made him show me the receipt and he said he knew I would that's why he bought it in the sale :rotfl:)but I'd have been happy with a cheaper one, it's the point of it that matters.

Therefore you can tell difference

Indeed - but who is likely to wear both together? So a CZ ring is just as good.

Theres no prob buying a CZ, the prob is when you try to pretend its a diamond. Everyone to themselves I suppose. Its whatever floats your boat0

As for rings, I too work in childcare and wear my ring all the time and have done for 7 years, before that I didn't wear rings.
I do have a platinum engagement ring and it still looks like it did the day I got it, it's very small and simple just what I wanted.
You could always wear it on a necklace or even buy another piece of jewellery instead as an engagement item

I was thinking a similar thing about wedding rings- OH was horrified when I suggested looking in Argos because they're cheap but if they're just plain bands and the same carat gold as another place how would they be any different?!?
Re. CZ rings - I don't see the problem with them at all- my mum bought one recently as her original engagement ring that she's had for 45 years won't fit on her finger any more due to arthritis. It looks great and as others have said, you wouldn't wear it with a diamond ring so the comparison wouldn't be direct. I must admit I adore my diamond engagement ring but it's more the style than the diamonds and being a good MSEr I do feel a bit guilty that it was quite expensive
(although obviously I am worth it
