Lego advent calendars - massive price increase?

I have been buying the Lego advent calendars for my 3 boys (1 to share between them) for the last few years. I'm sure that they started out at around £12, as I remember thinking that it wasn't so bad divided by 3.
I have just looked on the Lego shop website and this year they are £24.99 (for both the Lego City and the Lego Kingdom versions) and I'm sure the contents don't look any better in general.
Am I going mad or has there been a massive price hike (doubling) in the last 4 years or so? Maybe it's just my memory that's going!
Oh yes, has anyone spotted them significantly cheaper anywhere?

I think you're on to something here, I paid £14.99 last year for mine. I wonder if they have improved the quality of the laminate on the calender?0

I was thinking the same. I'm sure the RRP was around the £20 mark last year but I managed to pick one up from Amazon in November for £14.49. So it might be worth waiting - I can't see them flying off the shelves at that price.0

I did see that thread, but it's last year's one. You can tell from the lego code number. This years one's are here:

You can click on the images to see the box or the contents. It kind of gives the game away showing the whole contents of the thing too - my children regularly browse the Lego website, so there will be no surprise element if they see this!
Makes me think that I won't bother with it this year. You can get a lot more lego for £24.99 in other sets. It all ends up mixed in with the other stuff anyway.
The Daily Express (or was it the Mail) did a great Lego star wars free offer thing about this time last year. If they did a similar thing again I could collect the free bags of lego and make my own kind of calendar with them - you get a lot more lego in each of those packets too.0 -
Not as nice as last year - not really very festive at all. I suppose we'll get the Kingdom.0

Not sure how reliable the place is, but a quick Google found this place: http://www.supertoys.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=LEGO+Advent+Calendar&osCsid=fc0ecc5432531ee7c4943b8d4f73e587&x=9&y=70

Brilliant, just what I was looking for, thanks a million!:j0 -
Supertoys are Dutch. They're run by a 'non-trading individual' Good luck with getting your calendar.

looks like the accountants have cottoned on to the supply and demand thingy - the fact that the demand for these things warranted a far higher price and at the £12.49 price they were a few years back they were selling out too quick. Same principle to that of Center Parcs - demand was so high that it was only a matter of time before some bright spark (se Venture Capitalists) points out they can sell the same amount for a much higher price. Downside is that you alienate previous customers who are excluded from the higher price, as can be seen by the plethora of anti-CPs comments all over the web these days. The VCs arrogantly defend themselves with the comment 'well, we're always full...' as I imagine will be the comment from Lego, 'well, we can't keep up with demand...' Nice while it lasted, but I won't be buying this year0
