Just to note, i have 3 bookings in the US, 2 of which are with Netflights, going via Dollar... The car booked is a Mustang.....
Netflights produce a voucher for me to present to the Dollar desk..
On this voucher, it states STAR - STAR Ford Mustang Convertable.
So therefore, i am entitled to that car. It does not say alternative, or similar, it states Mustang..... (and yes, i know its got less BHP than my own car, but still nice to have a bash!)
When i get my cars in Vegas and Florida come June, if the Mustangs i ordered arn't available, i'll go nuts, and will accept what i have to in the end...
and do the same as Kimmy and complain and look for all the angles to get a full refund from Netflights.. or at least a big compensation cheque!

As a similarity, if you call a UK broker for my car insurance, and am sold Package 'A' , but then find i actually got Package 'B' , what would you do ? same as above! :)
  • Would they have done better to refuse to accept the car?
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

No you're not - you are entitled to a car in a similar category or better if that particular model is not available.

This is from the Dollar website (renting from Macarran). The link is here

Specific make/model and/or availability may vary by location.

Just be aware you might not get the Mustang but you are entitled to a car in a similar or better category - end of!

As I stated earlier - if you don't get it - don't let it spoil your trip - trust me - it just is not worth it as the car is nothing special.

Big compensation cheque for what? - a car supplied in accordance with the rental agreement you would likely have ticked the box for?

    Is it?! I didn't know that...interesting.

I agree with those that have explained that a specific make and model is not guaranteed...I suppose if someone wants to wait around until a Mustang is available (if any will be available that day) then great...but not sure how many people would be.

On the booking page for Netflights it does make this clear as well:

    Ford Mustang Convertible (or similar)

Beware of the free upgrades too...I once booked a full size car, they didn't have any, and offered me an SUV - free upgrade. I would not be comfortable driving something that big (at the time I drove a Panda here)...plus we were driving from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and didn't want the extra petrol costs...so I said I would have to wait for an alternative...luckily it wasn't that long of a wait.

At the end of the day it's a Mustang. I drove one once. Worse car I've had the misfortune to drive... Slow and crabbed, almost sidewards, along the road.
The convertible part is what's cool about it! Had a Sebring convertible once... far better than the Mustang IMHO.

Just rented off National at Orlando (first time with them). No "full size" available so was offered an upgrade to a mini-van. Ended up taking a compact (mazda3) as the misses was driving as she was more comfortable driving this.

As we only paid $96 for 4 1/2 days rental I don't think I'll push too hard for compensation from priceline :)

We had no choice BUT to accept the car she offered at the rental desk, we had checked out of the Palazzo in order to collect our rental car and for the road trip to begin. She told us that she had another 3 customers that day that she had to tell they were not going to get the vehicles they booked in England and due to this fact, the choice of vehicles she could offer as replacements was dwindling rapidly!

I do wonder why we book these vehicles, then think its entirely acceptable when we dont get what we booked and paid for??! If I booked a Bentley and got a Mondeo, would that be acceptable because I ticked a box on a form, 5000 miles away and booked 3 months ago? No it wouldnt. The rental girl also said we would get some of our money refunded onto my credit card when she sent the paperwork through to Head Office, nothing recieved, what a surprise!

I have told Netflights and Thomas Cook (I didnt know Netflights was TC either) that I will never give them my business again and that their customer service stinks, I shouldnt think for a moment that this will bother anyone employed by them. We've spent around £15,000 on holidays over the past 5 years, mostly with T. Cook, not any more.

PS. Our voucher also said STAR Ford Mustang Convertible, you have been warned!! The girl on the desk said the busier the season (ie summer, school holidays etc) the less chance that you'll get the car youve booked. Out of season (October, November, February, March) is all OK.

No, it wouldn't...because a Bentley is clearly a higher class of car than a Mondeo so would have cost more to book originally...it wouldn't be a similar (or better) car.

If you had booked a Mustang and they gave you a Bentley...then it would have been OK as it is a higher class of car than you paid for.

Another intermediate convertible would have also been OK too since it would be similar to a Mustang convertible.

No one's suggested that you should get less than you paid for.

I think that the argument about additional petrol costs is a valid one though...

OK true but can you see my point??! If I had wanted a Ford Explorer or similiar, I'd have booked one, I wanted a convertible and didnt get similiar! It didnt ruin our holiday and seeing the comments here re Mustangs, it seems like we had a good choice anyway!

It wasnt about the refund for me, its the principle that these companies seem to be able to take our money then when youre on your jollies and its too late, they dont want to know.
