Bad credit due to mobile phone

Hi i hope i have put this into the correct section but none of the other threads seemed right.
I have recently been turned down for a job with a bank. They said my credit check didnt pass. So i went onto to Credit Expert and Experian, paid the money and got my report. It was very very low, well the lowest. The culprit was 3 phone company. I got a phone two years ago for my fiance from 3. This phone was faulty from the begining. It was sent away to be fixed and came back just as bad. We took the phone back to the shop. The sales guy said these phones have a faulty chip and we would have to live with it, he then said they were crap...can you believe this. I was paying £35 a month. I then stopped the payments after 7 months on a 12 month contract. We didnt receive any letters from 3 asking for the money. No correspondance at all. I now find nearly 2 years later that my credit is bad because of this. I cannot get a job with banks or in the financial sector or even call centres as they all credit check. I have just been turned down by the prison service because of it. I would really like any advice you can give me. Thanks for listening.

You stop paying after 7 months of a 12mth contract and wonder why your credit history is bad! What else do you thing happens if you don;t pay what you owe. :rolleyes.
  • We did put a genuine verbal and written complaint into 3 and we were ignored. I think most people would stop paying if they got that kind of service...
  • Well, at least you have a written complaint in. Do you have a copy? It is now time to kick up merry hell with 3 for defaulting you when the account was in dispute. You did dispute the account in your letter? Probably you need to take this matter to the Information Commissioners Office

I think that it is a disgrace that the prison service will turn someone down for this sort of default.

Can you really not get a job with the prison service?

Also one default will not turn a excellent credit score into the lowest?
  • Thank you both of you for your reply. Yes i have a copy of the letter and disputed it in the letter. I even mentioned the name of the sales guy and what he told us.

I was turned down by First Direct who I actually banked with for 11 years due to the bad credit, when I had already been offered the position. And the Prison service admited to me that they had done a credit check and wasnt in there boundaries. Two potential really well paid jobs lost due to it. Its scary how much it can affect your life..

Im guessing its because somebody with bad credit history probably had a lot of debt and are struggling. This makes them far more susceptible to bribes which in a prison arnt too good....
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

There is a hell of a lot of difference between struggling with a lot of debt on the one hand and having a wrongfully placed default for a contract which is in dispute.

I know, if you read it was in reference to another poster who didnt understand why it would effect a job application at a prison.

May be so, did not think you could be accused of being guilty before doing some thing wrong as being debt is not illegal is it?

though other reason why your credit rating may be poor. eg just left education and lived at your parents with no bills and no income so no credit chance.

    Just me bieng curious.
