  • Hi there all MSEs - reader/vistor for a while but first post. Did follow MSE to get money back from HSBC on bank charges - 100% paid back!!

I recently opted to Balance Transfer £850 that I had to spend on car service/MOT to my Egg card because I checked the site and T&Cs to see if a 0% BT rate was active. All seemed clearly 'Yes' so I went ahead.

Now I see a £11 interest charge and i didn't seem to pay the expected 2% fee. Emails to customer services seem me stuck in a loop where they say the 0% only applies to new customers and mine was performed at my standard 16.9% rate. The only information they can provide me when I ask for MY t&cs are the above which are v misleading and not clear what applies to me versus 'a new customer'.

I would note that HSBC t&c's clearly define what applies to a 'new customer' as in within x months of 18 September 2006 etc.....

I would like to tackle Egg and hold them to T&Cs and what I believed I was getting for the BT. Otherwise I'll look for applying for another new card and BT to that (I have q good credit rating). I expect to take around a year to pay this off.

    Any advice please?

    Cheers

I can't decide which card to go for.

BMIBaby caps it's fees at £75 but is only 9 months. I don't know if that £75 cap is useful until I know what limit they will give me.

If they only give me a £3000 limit it would be better to go with Virgin for the 15 month deal, seeing as the virgin card is fee uncapped.

Then again I believe I might get a bigger limit from a different card altogether.
The 0 fee cards are stress now.

    Which should I go for?
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker
  • My first posting - ever! I have a new question re. transfers. I have a v v large overdraft with my bank and would like to try and transfer to a long term low interest credit card (which I figure would be much cheaper in the long run). It appears that credit cards only accept transfers from other credit or store cards, or am I reading it wrong?

looked at the deals available and felt that Natwest was a winner for me especially since the fee is 2%. Had Virgin, Halifax, GE money and now Natwest and only spent the transfer fee (ok mebbe a wee spend on car tyres) Tartsrus!!

Hi All, Newbie here so pls be gentle!!

Have been reading various posts for days and not really feeling ready to 'take the plunge!!' but here goes...

Currently have a LLoyds tsb platinum cc credit limit was £6000 but they have recently changed it to Airmiles duo and decreased the limit to £5000. (not sure why they changed??) current debt is £4670

my monthly interest is around £88. I am only just being able to make the minimum payment each month (around £95)

Any way I am feeling that I need to do a balance transfer.....Am I right in thinking it would be wise to look for 0% on balance transfer card??

History - Cleared and closed citi card recently (yippee!!):T
Have also cleared Royal bank of Scotland card altho this is not closed jst not used.
Have also got a marbles card somewhere - cleared, no correspondance but have never closed it....
    (Also have a lloyds loan)

what would you great people advise??

it has taken me ages to actually face up to my debts and feel like I have been struggling for years so I really want to clear this card the easiest way without too much hassle

    Any advice greatly received

  • Hi folks, l am coming to the end of a 0% interest credit card with sainsburys and have had a look at whats about and am favouring the tesco credit card, it has 0% on transfers for 12months but only 2% charge on balance transfers. l have £1000 to transfer which l am currently paying off at £20 per week which l will continue to do so should be about clear by the time of the end of the 0% rate finishes, it also offers clubcard points, my 2 questions are 1. do you accrue clubcard points for balance transfers? and 2. does anyone have a tesco credit card and is it ok?
    many thanks
    Sue

I've been through the posts, but can't really find what I looking for -

Is there any credit card out there at the moment which offers no fee on Balance Transfers?

I'm looking to 'park' some of my credit card debit.

0% on BT's and Purchases would be a bonus but the no fee on BT's is what I'm looking for.

    Thanks in advance.

whatever you do dont use a 0% purchases card and BT on it as youll shoot yourself in the foot.

    as martin says.

Ulster Bank and Ulster Rugby Card have the longest lasting 0% deals, at 6 months, fees free, still a decent length of time to pay off existing debts without being charged interest. Although there have been reports of delays in opening accounts on the latter.
