  • The fee for the sumpermarket security bi-annual visits with no mileage or travel time paid - lol -:rotfl:..... I worked out the travelling times both ways and the mileage costs together with time in store and I would be better off just sending them a cheque for my loss! At least then the time would be my own. In a small county where stores are close together this may be worthwhile but in large counties :rotfl::rotfl:dream on

I believe some companies think its an honour to work for them - thanks but no thanks

I read another closed forum and this is often a topic of conversation. In one instance,at a major supermarket, a manager put all is cashiers names on a list close by and if they got any negative mystery shopper feedback, they would have a red blob against their name. This is in the UK BTW,not North Korea. Also they were told they must "talk all the time" to customers, presumably about any old inane tosh.

I cannot comment on North Korean employment law but do know that one bad mystery shopper report would not be an instant dismissal. Whatever your job you have to follow company guidelines and they would be looking at an overall performance of their staff.
Mystery shoppers are one small cog in the standards process. We report what we experience and if a shop assistance drops a bottle of milk on my head, says F*** it! and laughs at me, doesn't bother to check if I am OK then I feel perfectly justified in making a comment. Same as if I am ignored at the till whilst two members of staff talk across me about the footie or some one points and grunts 'over there. Common courtesy costs nothing and makes the difference to whether I will bother to shop there again.

My experience is those that complain about being told off or pulled up on their work performance are genuinely the ones that need it! Do it right in the first place and you have nothing to worry about.

Hello everyone....had a long summer away...back now...for a while anyhow! Hope everyone is happy in MS world. Lots of reading on the threads to catch up with.

Watching! It was at my kids school.

Really?!!! Oh, wow, that IS news to me. I thought that when we gave a bad report the Manager would look at it, say "Oh well, doesn't matter, I won't do anything about that" and then screw up the report and throw it away!

I take it this has happened to you and you are now coming on here to complain about mystery shoppers?

What if a mystery shopper had given you a GLOWING report and as a result you'd got a pay-rise or bonus? Would you still be on here complaining?
Not really. I dont work as a cashier. Thankfully i earn much more than that but nevertheless,as a worker, i respect all other workers and i do not see why some ****** of a manager should be able to publicly flagellate and shame ordinary workers probably on minimum wage just because they forgot to ask the customer if they had one of their useless Nectar cards.

Obviously offensive and abusive behaviour should be dealt with in the appropriate manner.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

i agree, but feel that a situation like that cannot be the norm. I aslo dispute that it doesn't matter how much you get paid. I don't care if your on minimum wage or 50K a year. Your paid to do a job. What you get in the bank should not affect that.

Sorry, i would have asked you for a nectar card if i was on £6 and hour instead of £5.75 :rotfl:
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!

Rest assured if I see a manager 'publicly flagellate' someone, I will note it in my report.

(you obviously have an axe to grind with somebody, however, our job is to report as we find, good or bad.)

And please bear in mind that sometimes us glamorous shoppers get red blobs put against our names or fired for no reason (it's happened to heaps of people) because we give honest reports which happened to be negative to the store. So it's not all posh and glamorous being a mystery shopper. It works both ways.

Re: the Nectar card and being humiliated by the manager. I don't think it works that way. Each store scores points for each aspect of the visit. If a cashier gave excellent service but missed out on asking for a Nectar card, they would lose one point which I presume would be acceptable. Now if that cashier was a troll and did not smile, greet, make eye contact, engage with the customer and was chatting to another cashier, they probably would get told off as they would have lost a lot of marks.

Anyway, looks like the new chick on React is allocating jewellery visits. Wahey :0)

It sounds like you have worked your way up in retail, then. So you know that the standard of customer service is one of the criteria that influences a business's profits?

As one of the earlier posters implied, customers vote with their feet and their wallets: if they are satisfied, then they return and spend.

You seem to take umbrage with cashiers being expected to mention loyalty cards. If the company concerned feels that use of a loyalty card is intrinsic to their business's stability and/or growth, then of course they want customers to be encouraged to signup/use the cards.

Presuming that you are employed in retail, you must be aware that loyalty cards tell the company more about the purchaser than the number of loyalty points awarded????? Of course, you must know that loyalty card data tells the business about individual customer's buying habits. The business doesn't collect this information just for fun!!! Have you never received a targeted promotion from a supermarket or similar??

You may well earn more than a supermarket cashier, and you may well label some managers as w&nkers, but I think you will find that there are all standards of competence in any occupation. Competence is not always reflected in the employee's salary! You may not be aware that some mystery shopping assignments pay far less than the government minimum wage. This does not necessarily mean that the shopper completes them any less professionally than they would complete a higher paid assignment!
