True. But would they be able to prove you were lying?

E.g. I took a coffee with somebody for refund only.

I had never worked for the company before and wanted to get my foot in the door as well as having never done a coffee before.

Can they prove that i'm lying? (if i am, which i actually aren't)

Afraid the HMRC does not always work like a courtroom, I don't know exactly how this instance would fall, but to appeal some HMRC decisions the burden of proof would remain with you to prove that it was an allowable expense rather than with HMRC to prove it wasn't (although a single coffee purchase would be unlikely to interest them)

I've hopefully sent it on to my ex-colleagues in Rosyth who have a work 4 x 4, can't promise they'll do anything as none of them are going to work just now but it's worth a try!

Oh, and one thing I learned on my college course, HMRC have more powers than any other UK body, eg the Police. If you want to pee off the authorities, pick a different one as they may not win, but your life will be a misery!
  • Anyone else get the React email about jobs that need to be done TODAY? Might have been an idea to send it out before 9pm! :D

Yeah got it, seemed bizarre that they sent it so late!

Just writing up a report, I feel bad giving negative reports at this time of year but did a clothing shop today and the return part was just awful! The girl was so rude and started singing along to 'apple bottom jeans with the furrrrrrr' inbetween swearing at the till  no goodbye or anything either.
  • Hi again guys...

Another quick question from me! anyone know when RE will pay with the Xmas holidays? I've got 2 visits to do tomorrow and i'm not sure when i'll get paid for them?

Hi again - I know i'll get paid on the 10th but the next paydate is due for 25th - any ideas whenthey will pay?

Sounds a lot like Clinton's smoked Maruijana but didn't inhale excuse! As I said in my last post, you can say it..... but you'll need to argue why you did it

I did it for the fee! I'm not that keen on take out burgers etc but I've obviously got to taste them to answer the report questions. Nowhere does the briefing say I've got to eat all the darn thing.

I don't see the taxman having a real problem with that - he's getting tax on the fee and its hardly reasonable to demand tax on a food item that I haven't eaten. I don't see the fun of non fee jobs - especially as the tax implications are a can of worms.

The burger is different you are writing a report on the quality etc your buying the burger specifically as thats what it states so its an expense.
  • STRESS

I have braved the elements today and have done 17 visits. First one was at 06:02 this morning. Another 15 planned between now and Sunday, I'm cracking.

And when I stopped for lunch for a hour and started rattling up the reports the phone started to ring 'I see you are in X area, is there any chance you could just pop to X' Sure no problem I nipped into the local garage this morning and swapped my Ford Fiesta for a sledge and reindeer.
  • I am sure this is answered somewhere but I can not find it (sorry if I am being blind)

Can you have someone with you doing the chicken drive thru for GAP? I know that you can not for the burger one but I have some memory that you can with the chicken..

Grr the sooner this bl**dy snow goes (which is not likely to be soon given it is -10deg at the moment) and BF stops needing to share my 4x4 to get to work the better
