You could try putting a cheeky ad in local paper and supermarket / shop boards advertising for a free car or lift from someone who maybe goes that way every day?

Freez, that's just what I was going to suggest! It might have to come down to knocking on the neighbours doors... can I borrow your car; I'll pay the petrol and pick up your shopping on the way home...?

Do you have any older neighbours who may not drive their car much? My Papa (in his 80s) still has his car but actively asks my folks to take it for a big run for him every so often. He only uses it twice a week to get his shopping and to visit my folks.

He doesn't want to do long drives or drive in the dark. But neither does he want his car seizing up on him. So it could be someone's perfect solution as well as yours! But you'll never know if you don't ask.
