My Maggie is second hand but technically not properly worn. The seller's wedding was cancelled.
I think all these superstitions about wearing a second hand wedding dress were made up by the dress shops/designers to get you to spend more!!0 -
I would absolutely. I would like to open a bridal consignment shop around London. There is one by my parents house in the US where I will sell my dress. It seems there are more online dress sites in the US as well and people on the knot buy once wed or 2 dress brides first dresses all the time.0

Ive met one lady looking for a second hand dress who was open to trying anything on except dresses for sale because the wedding had fallen through! Apparently the bad luck follows the dress?? Personally wouldnt bother me at all if i was getting a good deal!:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
I bought my Maggie dress from Preloved! Tried it on in a bridal shop but at £1200 it was way over my budget (shouldn't have tried it on should I!!)
There were a few for sale on Preloved and other sites for about £600 which seemed reasonable then I saw someone selling hers for £400. Went and tried it on (miles away from home so a bit of a mission) and loved it. I was cheeky and took £350 in cash with me and offered her that. It needs to be dry cleaned and I'll have it altered but I am very pleased with my bargain!
Def go and try it on and as someone else said, take cash! x0 -
I'd certainly consider it, I'm not particularly superstitious (though I might draw the line at a jilted dress!)0

Ooh that's so cheeky! I'd have said No!!
Don't assume the seller thinks they're getting bags of money at £500. From looking through second hand sites I was amazed at how much people were trying to get for them. People don't like to think that they have wasted £700!! People normally overestimate the value, especially of something they love... "Oh yes, that dress is tatty and horrible and only £150 - but my wedding dress is the most beautiful of all of them and totally worth a thousand pounds - they're lucky to get it for £500!"
At the end of the day - that's why dresses are so expensive - because people fall in love with a dress that's SO beautiful and declare they are going to have it regardless of cost. No one wants to admit it's worth a tenth of what they bought it for.
Don't forget we're on an MSE site here - go on Confetti forums and ask how much people bought their second hand dresses for!!
The best way of getting the price down is to tell her you'll think about it and if it is over priced she'll have to reduce it herself in time to sell it. It's a risky strategy - but there will always be a dress. I don't know when you're getting married but I'm guessing you've got the time to find another one just in case.I love surprises!0 -
im not quoting 'it' but you should know who im talking to
ive calmed a little bit now......
so youve never slept in a hotel bed or any other bed apart from yours or do you take your own sheets every where?I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
I would rather have a fake real dress than someone elses cast off where they have sweaty and theres body parts in, and not to mention other bodily fluids that would have likely to been on it that wedding night...gross!
Get a life man!
Op it doesnt bother me at the end of the day you only really wear the dress once then get it dry/steamed CLEAN (yes smcqis cleaned if you know what that is) A Mother Is Someone Who Lets Her Heart Run Around Beyond Her Body..... :iloveyou:

Sounds like we've got a troll.
I know I shouldn't feed them, but have you ever heard of this concept of "cleaning" clothes before you wear them? :rotfl:0 -
