ISP advice

Hello

I'm moving in to a student house at weekend, there will be 3 of us.Last year there was 6 of us so we had Tiscali and wireless, hoping this year for wired so it will be cheaper.

Anyone any advice on providers, I've looked at loads. Gone off the monthly contracts 'cos of the cancelltion fee and think I'm leaning towards Tiscali, Orange, AOL or Toucan, anyone got any experience of these?

Cheers in advance guys

One point about wireless, for the price of a wireless router nowadays I wouldn't specifically sign up or not sign up for an ISP offering a free wireless router. You can buy a reasonable wireless router even from the likes of PCW for about £40 and often coming with a free dongle or laptop card.

If you divide the cost of this between the 3 of you its the price of a take away and a bottle of wine each :)

I would say go for http://www.idnet.net/broadband/ no cancellation fee and you buy from month to month, if you line is already activated then migration is free as long as you have your MAC code from you last broadband provider.

The reason they charge you if you cancel early is all broadband providers are charged about £50 to activate your line to make it Broadband Ready.

With IDnet you need to supply your own modem if you want to save money and get a free one try asking on your local Freecycle Group for one http://www.freecycle.org/ people are always offering them their.

avoid Touscan - since they have an FUP of around 0.75GB a week if i remember some of the posts around here.... but then i would avoid Tiscali too - due to all of the complaints i've seen

fair use policy - how much you can download a month.... eg. Touscan can say unlimited broadband - subject to FUP and make it just 1MB if they want, and cut you off
