I dont think this makes any difference at all to be honest as it is the mothers right as Lemonjelly and others have said.

I think affairs are much more damaging. If you can lie ( and I honestly dont know how anyone can actually do this) to your wife whilst sleeping with someone else, then you can lie to anyone.

2 of my most favourite politicians have succumbed to this ( John Major, Chris Huhne) and in my mind shows them as very weak individuals. Instead of having the face to simply say to the wife "look, its not working out with us is it" it is kept a secret until the media inevitably finds out and the poor wives have to deal with the media and everyone else looking pityingly on.

if you cant be 100% straight up about how you feel to your nearest, how can you be trusted to tell the truth elsewhere?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Can I question your use of the word salubrious?

I always understood it to mean beneficial to health.

I think he was reaching for the word salacious.

The Copenhagen climate change summit and the general and leadership elections had prevented him and partner Justine Thornton setting a date, he said."

    That is lame as anything.

I'm not that bothered about marriage myself, either, but meaning to and not quite getting round to it because of work is pathetic!

really? we have delayed getting married as we have moved house, then because my sisters wedding was this summer, I was hoping we would plan it for May next year but i have got exams, and I wouldnt want my studies disrupted by worrying about swags & sashes! I have intermittent exams for the next 2 years.... almost quarterly.....

we dont have half the commitments any frontline politician would have. If I was a frontline politician my work would come first.

  • Moving house, weddings, etc, fine. But a climate change conference?

Quite agree. Factor in several months in the summer when Parliament doesn't sit and there's plenty of time to organise a date for a wedding.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I'm a bit wary of posting this but I think it matters.

This BBC piece notes that Ed Milliband is not named on his child's birth certificate (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11433642). I have no problems with his having a child without being married but I do feel that taking responsibility for one's children is important and question why he is not on the birth certificate.

    Any thoughts?

Edit: I haven't voted yet - my initial answer is no it shouldn't matter but may be I am showing my age that his not being named on the birth certificate seems strange - can the mother refuse to allow the father to be named even if he wants to be?

Edit: Thanks LemonJ for answering the last point but the issue of whether a father should have the right to be acknowledged on the birth certificate is probably for a different discussion.

Its non of my business. I want to know if he can do a great job.. that's it and I feel embarrassed that his child is being subjected to this scrutiny.

Idle gossip without being in full possession of the facts, yes tittle-tattle I think.

"Idle gossip" NuLabspeak for "inconvenient or embarrassing facts"
