Where to get a new build snagging list?

  • Hi all.
I have just finished completing on the new house and I must say I am very impressed with it. I really couldn't find much wrong. I read all the horror stories on these snagging web sites and while they were good for make me check everything thoroughly, they are a bit OTT and scare mongering IMO or maybe I am just lucky and have a good one. We bought from Bovis (Red Lodge, Suffolk) and it is a fab house.
I used a couple of lists one of which was sent by F_T_Buyer as above and the other I cobbled together from the www. brand-newhomes. co. uk web site. I will send them onto those who asked. These were useful just to give an idea what to check but it is mostly common sense. I am an engineer (electrical rather than buildings) so do know a little about what to look for that’s why I did this myself. I could have missed something that a proper surveyor may have picked up but I don’t know how a major problem could be fixed anyway if there was something. I bought after the house was 99% complete so could only really pick on minor faults. Anything major would have been tricky to resolve but I cant find anything. They seem to have agreed with my dozen or so points and say they will fix them, time will tell.
So in summary, if you know a little about how a house is put together then I don’t see why you cant do this yourself. If you haven got much of an idea then yes get one of this snagging companies to do it if you want to pay. To be sure of everything, I think you would really need to continuously snag as the build progresses rather than right at the end if this is possible.
    Hope that helps someone.
    Cheers
    Keith.
