Firstly are you "quietly confident" that the pads were changed correctly AND that the discs didn't in fact need changing too?

Is it a continuous noise? or a tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick?
Does in occur when you simply lift off the throttle? or is it definitely when braking?
Does it stop if you balance the throttle so that your not accelerating or slowing?
Does it get worse with speed?

I've just been through all this to diagnose my own cars issues......

Currently got a similar noise with the wifes Xsara, and it is the anti rattle shims that work loose on the caliper catching the disc as it's rotating..

Trouble is, she's lost one, and Citroen Wakefield will replace it as long as I buy a new set of pads, as they come in the same box for the nice sum of £65. However, I can get a set of 4 shims in a service kit from Citroen Hull for around £17, but as they are too far away, then that won't happen. I'll see where I am tomorrow (HGV driver.) and see if the local dealer will sell me the service kit.

I'm even struggling to find an independent to supply, and Peugeot Wakefield are like Citroen Wakefield and will only sell them with pads, as they also fit a 306.
That's my mutt in the picture above.
  • Cheap quality brake pads or rust on the discs catching the new pads.

    Few questions.

Does it stop once you reach a certain speed?

Does it stop when the car is stationary but still on?

Is it a grinding noise, like something grinding against gravel or more of a screeching metal sound?
