Rotating noise when accelerating and braking!?

Hi there,

I don't know if anyone can answer this but....

I have a Rover 200, 66,000 mileage, recently when accelerating and more noticably when braking I can hear a rotating noise, obviously getting slower when braking and faster when accelerating.

The noise is coming from (I think) the bonnet but I have no idea what it is?!

Can anyone help at all?

It's hard to describe, sometimes it sounds like rotating metal but othertimes it sounds like a dodgy washing machine?!?

Pretty vague I know but it's really hard to describe!

Hi ,

Check the brake pads first , they could be worn , does the noise get louder the harder you brake ? or it could be a wheel bearing .

It doesn't get louder it just comes to a stop because I'm slowing. I've had my brake pad's changed before due to them screeching so i'm 'quietly' confident it's not them!

Wheel bearings, warped disc, brakes, could be a few things.

Thanks for the responses, I'm glad no-ones said Cam-belt as this is what I thought it might be!?

Depends where it's coming from- engine bay, or wheels?

Cambelts going can screech, squeal, rattle- general grumbling. Do you know when it was last changed? Tensioner will make a sound like tapping sometimes, could be worth checking too.
