Cheap Train Tickets

I have a day return from Oxford to York (needs a 16-25 railcard) for Saturday 02/10/10 for anybody interested. Seems a shame to let them go to waste and as the prices are sky high I thought it would be good if they go to a fellow MSE member for cheap. PM for details or check here

It is a breach of Section 21 of the Railway Byelaws to buy/sell tickets, except by an authorised person in the course of his duties.

Just thought you'd like to know :)

Also, you say "You do not have to cover the full distance, this ticket could be used for journeys for stations in between (Banbury, Leamington Spa, Birmingham New Street, Derby, Sheffield, Doncaster) times are listed below."

Break of journey IS NOT permitted on advance tickets and can result in a penalty fare or payment of the full undiscounted fare being required.

    (cynical mode on)

With what East Coast have done here means that condition now effectively ceases to exist if you travel on their trains.

Only if you are a well educated, media savvy "professor" who got caught on the fiddle !
  • But surely you can buy the ticket, get off a station before as long as you get back on it at a later time in the day and continue the journey?
Thought for the day: each generation of mankind tends to hug the illusion of having reached the culmination of human achievement. Yet, as we scoff at our groping ancestors, so our descendants will surely scoff at us.

On a normal ticket, yes. But in this case we are talking about advance tickets. The conditions for these tickets clearly state: a. break of journey is not permitted and b. you must travel on the train which you have reserved.

I wish I could agree with you, but me thinks a lot of veteran fare dodgers (you know the ones that, when they see an RPI run to them with cash in their hand demanding a ticket, but if they don't see an RPI walk carmly out of the station) will use this 'monumental c0ck up by East Coast' to abuse the T&C's of advance tickets.

Which in the long run could force the Train companies' to withdraw these tickets or introduce more restrictive terms.

Which is why you get them cheap - the train company is trying to put bums on otherwise empty seats.

    For info: (and the "professor")

Seems clear enough to me - but of course I'm not a "professor"...........

You seem to have dragged this thread off topic Moonrakerz, but since you have done that...

The restriction "thou shalt not get off the train before the destination" is unfair.

There is a law (don't know what it is called) which states that unfair terms in contracts are unenforcible.

When will this ridiculous farce be aired in court?

Of course, I realise that isn't a question you can answer Moonrakerz.
