    My story's a bit like Badger lady's.

    Six years ago I decided to relocate from the Midlands to the South West (my best mate had made the move a year earlier with her job).

    I went to visit her at the seaside for a week's holiday.

    I decided on the Sunday that I wanted to move.
    On the Monday I did up my CV
    On Monday at 4.50 I posted it to Monster.
    On Monday at 5.10 an agency rang me. (Actually, the first of many)
    On Tuesday I went to register with the agency (specialised in my field, not a generalist, although I have used them before), did all the tests and interview with them.
    On Wednesday we went looking at places to live.
    On Thursday and Friday I had eight interviews.
    On Saturday, we found the place that was to be our home for the next couple of years.
    On Monday, I had a second interview at one place and was offered the job.

    So - I went back up to the Midlands with a new job and somewhere to live...over 100 miles away (although I did need a rest!) And I've never looked back.

    And I only did it because "well, it can't hurt" :rotfl:

    The problem is that the agency advertising the role doesn't always put you forward even if you have strong skills and the experience. A lot of them are being very picky when it comes down to which candidates they are putting forward for a role. If you know who the company is then it would be best to submit your application directly to them.

    I have also when I applied for a role on one of their websites been told and I quote 'that wasn't an actual live role, we put it on there to bring in some more candidates'

    I have had a few interviews via jobsite but the agencies involved were all, without exception, complete pants - sending me for Java jobs and telling me it was C#, putting me in at too high a salary, company liked me but offered to someone cheaper etc. I've got all my jobs through applying direct to companies on spec.
    I'm not on linkedin as I assumed everyone on there is looking for work and if my employer saw me on there they probably wouldn't be very impressed.
  • I got a one off temp job through the Reed website a few months ago, with an agency in Bradford who were recruiting for an Aviva job in Edinburgh (helping with the issuing of exam results). It was a fantastic job in itself as although we were originally contracted to work for 4 days and managed to complete the task in 6 hours, but we were paid for about 20 hours work, and the Aviva team were lovely. Know what you mean though. When I was out of work, I checked the Reed website regularly, and saw the same jobs appearing time and time again, so I don't 100% have faith in it, but I wouldn't write them off because there probably are good opportunites in there sometimes.

    I have, but only through a specialist website which you have to pay for anyway. I have had a lot of calls from companies about jobs from it though.

    Never had luck with any other websites though.

    I got my current job from putting my CV on Monster. You do get a lot of agencies just trying to fill their books though, trust your instinct when you speak to them. You still need a well presented CV with key words in as well.

    Looking at it from a company's pov, when we looked to advertise a role ourselves rather than through our usual agency we ended up using Monster as it was easier to use, had a clearer pricing structure, and was cheaper than Reed. If a jobsite requires an employer to call to get rates for advertising/accessing CVs we don't bother, we don't want to waste our time sitting through a hard sell, we just want to click and get started. So I know in future, if I need to, I would be checking out how easy/expensive these job sites make it for employers to use before bothering to upload my CV.

    Due to forming links with agencies Jobsite has got me a temp role I start next week for a couple of weeks. Not the job I originally applied for via the site but it was how I got on their books.

    Jobcentre website has recently got me a few interviews but no success on actually getting a job.

    I find most of the roles I apply for through Jobsite, Total Jobs and Jonbcentre plus websites.
  • OH starts a job on Monday he found on Jobsite.co.uk. Has found many jobs in the past on this website - he prefers contract work.
