Have you ever got from the internet..?

  • I got a job through the Boots jobsite and I also got jobs from Gumtree website as well.
  • I got an interview for a job I found on the Reed site (didn't get it though that was my own fault for not 'selling' myself fully at interview).

Also have one in the pipeline through Reed's website with another agency called Blue Octopus - who even though they are an agency, they are doing an excellent job of emailing me to reassure me that my application is with the employer being considered blah blah blah. I know they are 'standard' emails, but it's very nice to find an agency who bothers.

TBH my best 'jobsearch' successes recently have all been ads in the local paper - if I could just improve my interview skills I'd have been employed 6 times in the last 4 months! Must learn that what pops into my head should not come directly out of my mouth without being 'filtered' first.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
  • As mentioned above Monster is probably one of the leading boards. I have had calls from recruitment firms in the past when my CV was active on there.

Does anybody know if jobs that are shown in the print version of the paper will automatically be shown on the online version?

When I advertised a job in my local paper I was offered just the basic newspaper ad, or a package including their online site as well. So not all of them automatically go on the website as well as in the paper.

I got my current job via the old job centre job search facility
  • It's a lot more hit-and-miss. But yes, I've had numerous interviews from internet sites. More importantly, I've been picked up by a number of recruitment agencies who've then put me in touch with employers... and that's how I got my last three jobs (all of them good promotions from one another).

The recruitment agencies can be as bad as the websites, mind, sending you off to interviews all over the place just to make their numbers look good :(

  • Yes, I applied for my current job online (primary school teacher in Spain).

    Post was advertised on tes.co.uk

Had a few decent offers via LinkedIn, might be worth joining up.

Linkedin is in my opinion the best and most effective way to reach target companies and recruiters - and for them to reach you.

The problem is if you are not already on it it may be difficult to do anything effective in the short term.

I would recommend anyone who is a professional to join whether they are seeking new emplyment or not. It is social networking/media for professionals. A bit like Facebook but for grownups ;)
  • I got an interview and then a job offer through Reed.co.uk. I took the job but left after a few weeks as I hated it. Though that had nothing to do with the fact it was through an internet based application!
