Problems with my Passat - Again!

I'm really fed up with my Passat, or Passit as I'm now calling it.

She's totally conked out on me and is laid up in the local VW dealers who can't look at it until next Tuesday *rolls eyes*.

Thankfully I just managed to get it into a parking space in work before she died, a local garage 'put her on a machine' and it came up with something like 'ECU power to earth' .

Does anyone know what this means and how much it's likely to cost?

I take it all the electrics will be affected as the parking brake was stuck on and hard to take off when the tow truck came to take her away. I have a warranty but there is a limit so wondered how much this type of job costs. :o

  • At least your handbrake stuck on, they usually release themselves and roll away, could be a VW Passing..;)

There's just no way of knowing how much this is going to be, i assume it's out of manufacturers warranty.
Depending on how much !!!!!! turpin decides you can afford to give this time it might be an idea to ask around for a good VW indy in your area.
  • Out of warranty and taken to a main dealer, Better start sewing your pockets up and checkout the
    prices of a bus pass.

Ask the question on a VW forum, you'll probably find someone with exactly the same issue, (I should say that got it sorted cheaply) ;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

  • im sure someone will be along to blame a french car and recommend you replace your passat with a skoda....
  • Search for VW Audi forum (I can't post links), you need to choose Volkswagen, Passat and then select the link for your model, although if you have an electronic handbrake it has to be the B6 Forum (2005+)

Guys on there are very helpful.

If your Passat it a 2005 model onwards (ie current shape) I have bad news I'm afraid, it is an unreliable car, there is a major issue with injectors on certain engines (BKP) - when one fails it costs circa £800 to fix - the bad news is there are 4 injectors that could fail (VW should do a recall, it is a dangerous fault). I speak from experience, so much so I am taking delivery of a Toyota Avensis today - might me a bit dull but In have 5 years hopefully worry free motoring.

Is that a coded message or a blond moment, or even irony, that evidentally I don't get.

All cars have faults, some owners however don't accept that.

If there was a perfect car for everyone we would all own it:j:j:j:j

    Thanks for the replies.

I have got a warranty but there's a thousand pound limit that' why I asked about cost.

I didn't even want this type of car tbh, it was DH decision. I wanted something smaller. Oh well.

It's on an 07 plate. If it does turn out to be something really major that's going to cost me loads I'm not going to be happy.

I will post an update once I find out what's wrong with it.

    OK an update.

Broken no2 injector and needs new injector wiring loom. The garage also found a problem with the parking brake switch which needs replacing.

The injector fault is a common problem with the 2.0 engine, VW dealership confirmed this to me over the phone.

Originally the cost of repairs was going to be £924 BUT VW have agreed to pay 70% of the cost of repairing the injector and wiring. Actual cost to me now £345.

    I'm well chuffed.
