conversion from coal to what??? Please help

I have a house which has a coal fired central heating system. I rent the property out and the system was checked for safety at the beginning of the last tenancy. the result was that there is a plate missing from it which is not safe. It is a rare peice apparantly and the guy suggested changing the central heating system.
My question is what do i change it to as there is now gas supply in the house. Can we still use the systems radiators etc? any sort of estimate on costs would be greatly appreciated.

Check out the Sanyo CO2 Eco system for that, heats water to 65 degrees, depending on size of house, small 2-3 bed about £5,000 4-5 bed best part of £8K, however the tank unit needs to be sited on the ground floor, its b**** heavy!!

I would be tempted to find somebody to make that plate.
Sounds like the coal fire is part of the charm of the place.

  • Thanks for the advice. With it been a fire place does it not have to be a genuine part? not knowing much about regulations and such i need to ask the question. I dont actually live in the property which makes knowing which part it is a bit of a problem. Do you know if there might be a schematic of these fires so as to actually see the missing item?

It so happens that I have a surveilance camera in your property trained on the fire place, so I know exactly the brand and model it is. With the X-Ray feature on the camera, I can see that a previous service engineer had removed a service access panel to the circuit board housing, which is exposed to the heat and fumes. By tilting and panning around the house, I see a previous tenant had placed the panel in the kitchen sink cabinet.

Obviously you don't believe I have such omnipotent powers,
so why don't you get the tenant to take a few pictures with a digital camera, and e-mail them to you?
