  • my engagement ring was bought from ernest jones. it was £400 and i feel in love with it, it wasnt a price range i was considering at all and was looking at much more expensive rings but thats the one i wanted. they have loads from a couple of hundred upwards so plenty to choose from within your budget range.

    its similar to this http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/4453336/18ct+white+gold+quarter+carat+diamond+solitaire+ring/

I read a chick lit book and it talked a lot about Tanzania and the tanzanite stone - it's got such a beautiful history behind it.

It sounds like you wont be happy unless you have a tanzanite stone? It is very rare, and beautiful. Tell your OH that the problem ring is a "sign" that you are both unique and so is your love - and get a tanzanite ring!

I read that book too, and now its bugging me as to whats its title!!

    Sorry off topic :o

Yeah I know what you mean Maggie I simply wasn't that bothered about it either really the being married and having a plain band means so much more than any diamond. That said I'm not that keen on diamond anyway my favourite stone is actually tanzanite but OH insists I can't have that it has to be the overpriced diamond ring OH has gone on and on about me having one and it being the 'proper way to do it' I'm fussy so it took me ages to find one lol budget is up to £600 and we live in Newcastle

    xx

    a budget tastic £175 http://www.fhinds.co.uk/Diamonds/Diamond_Rings/Dress_Rings/9ct-White-Gold-Diamond-And-Trillion-Tanzanite-Ring-047114.html

  • my ring is tanzanite with two small diamonds on either side, its shrunk (thats my story and im sticking to it. it has nothing to do with me gaining weight lol) so I dont wear it but i do love it. Its been sitting in the dresser for months waiting to get stretched and when I tell someone that Im getting married they never go 'oh lets see the ring!'
so i wouldnt say it was unconventional at all

though you should make OH get you the ring you want. We could be engagement ring twins too :)

I love the first and the last of those above. Gorgeous!!!
My Dad bought my Stepmum an engagement ring last year for her 60th birthday, after they'd been married for 8 years!
That has a tanzanite in it and it's gorgeous.
I considered tanzanite, but I'm a fusspot about colours matching and knew I wouldn't be happy wearing it all the time if it didn't "go" (OMG, I've just realised I am a total and utter girl!!!)
If you love it, I would go for tanzanite personally. It's rarer than diamonds I think too.

Sometimes it's worth looking around antique and vintage shops. We got my engagement ring in an antique shop in York (we also met in York so that made it quite special) and we got an 18ct white gold ring with 0.60ct diamond for far less than a modern one in high street store. And I love it :D

I had to Google but it's this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pillow-Talk-Freya-North/dp/0007245920/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1285708743&sr=8-5

Was such a lovely book and by coincidence I read it in Kenya. I ended up giving it to the lady who arranged the safari where we got engaged.

What a lovely reminder to buy it for our honeymoon!

(The main character in the book is a jeweller and has a fascination for tanzanite, in case people are wondering why we're rabbiting on!)
    I love surprises!
  • I read that book and since then have really wanted some tanzanite jewellery! I keep dropping hints to my boyfriend about how I'd LOVE a tanzanite ring so I'm hoping that one day......!!
