I'm Gutted :( .......

Options
Well after the walking on air post last week here's the moan of the day ...............

I know it's not massive in the grand scheme of things BUT at the weekend OH and I bought my engagement ring online

we got it from diamond heaven it arrived today and it's pants :( OH got it whilst I was at uni I didn't get in till 4 ish so had to wait til then although I knew he didn't like it already.

I like small and simplistic so we ordered a .30 ct diamond with a princess cut to it on a platinum band. On the site the pics they had looked like it was a decent ring.

On seeing it though the state of the band is horrific it is the thinest band we have ever seen and would break so easily (not what you want from something you want to wear forever) You can see a join in the bottom of the band (the palm side of your hand) and it is slightly bent out of shape (not good when it's new)

Have been in touch with them and they are going to refund it but that can take between 10 - 14 days :( so gotta wait even longer to wear my ring

I know there's nothing you guys can do lol but just wanted a moan I guess feel dead disappointed by it.

Be careful what you get online is the moral of the story I guess dunno what I want to get now not sure I trust online and think the high st rip your eyes out. May well just not bother with one at all ......is that too unconventional ??

thanks for listening
xx

Whereabouts do you live Poppy and what's your budget?

I have a ridiculously expensive engagement ring. My H2B designed it and worked hard at getting it perfect.... Now that my wedding ring is coming I don't care about the engagment ring any more :o

I'm sure I will love them both equally, but I know which one will be more important to me after we get married!
    I love surprises!

Yeah I know what you mean Maggie I simply wasn't that bothered about it either really the being married and having a plain band means so much more than any diamond. That said I'm not that keen on diamond anyway my favourite stone is actually tanzanite but OH insists I can't have that it has to be the overpriced diamond ring OH has gone on and on about me having one and it being the 'proper way to do it' I'm fussy so it took me ages to find one lol budget is up to £600 and we live in Newcastle

I read a chick lit book and it talked a lot about Tanzania and the tanzanite stone - it's got such a beautiful history behind it.

It sounds like you wont be happy unless you have a tanzanite stone? It is very rare, and beautiful. Tell your OH that the problem ring is a "sign" that you are both unique and so is your love - and get a tanzanite ring!

  • i have a green tsavorite stone in my ring - it's beautiful, slightly cheaper than diamond, and my ring is totally unique.

i say, get you and OH to a decent independent jewellers and have a chat with them about using tanzanite. there are pros and cons to everything and you may change your mind anyway.

diamond is a very hard stone, whereas tanzanite is a lot softer so will damage more easily - but i had the same problem with tsavorite and to make it as protected as possible, the jeweller suggested a certain cut which i absolutely loved, and which protects the stone. it also meant that they could look for a slightly smaller stone (thus cheaper!!!) because the setting sort of bulks it out, but not in a skanky way!!!

hope that makes sense! ngood luck!

Firstly, I don't think you're being silly at all. I would have cried my eyes out if mine was wrong. It's a lifetime thing, like you said!!!
I got mine from serendipity diamonds. It's called "R1H006" and I love it!!!
It's 0.3 carat, princess cut palladium.
Although the ring took a little longer than it should have done to arrive (3 weeks) it was made to order and we were able to choose the cut, clarity etc to make it fit our budget. It's a good colour and clarity and cost £470.
We bought online because of the reason like you of not wanting to be ripped off!!!
I can very much recommend serendipity.

Not at all. 2 girls I know didn't have engagement rings (both very well off but didn't want them for other reasons). One has a very unusual wedding ring with a diamond in it, and the other has a normal band with several small diamonds in it. That may be an option for you?

I'll see if I can find pics of similar rings.

Okay, here's one (but my friend's is flatter with square edges if that makes sense)

  • Come down to Birmingham and visit the jewellery quarter, you can't go wrong! It's a good excuse for a day out, there are some nice places to eat lunch and you get a whole day looking at lovely shimmery shining things.

My ring is from the jewellery quarter and it's lovely - but then I would be bias! Seriously though, anyone looking for engagement rings that can get to Birmingham should seriously considerate it. The choice, quality and prices are great.
