Oil , Electric, Calor or even heat Pump for central heating?

We are looking at a house that we may buy. It has night storage heaters( not sure of age but probably old). It is 4 beds 2 baths 3 receptions so quite large and dating back to Victorian times.
We doubt there is gas in the village so what are our best options ?
We need to consider not just installations but also running costs. There are extensive grounds for heat pump installation or tank storage ( gas or oil).

Ground source heat pump. If it's good enough for Buckingham Palace, it's good enough for you. You can use it for cooling in the summer.
What I do wonder is, for people with unshaded pieces of land,
can they get Isis to fit 3kW worth of ground based PV panels for free?
So the wet dream scenario is, you get the PV panels for free under the FIT scheme this year, and then get the ground source heat pump cheap under RHI next year. You still have to pay for some electricity, but it should be pretty low running cost.0 -
The cost of Fossil fuels (Gas, oil & LPG) are going to rise dramatically over the next few years.
Ground source heat pumps may work if considerably over engineered (very expensive) and here in the UK GSHP are not getting very good press, not much sunshine to warm the earth, once you take the heat out of the ground, it cannot recover quick enough, high running costs!! (another story) GSHP work better with under floor heating, (lower flow temperatures). spend as much money as you can on insulation, double glazing, if the ground floor is wooden suspended, insulate under and draughtproof. Air source heat pumps are as efficient as GSHP and if designed correctly will work no problem. get some proper advice, research kit from Mitsubishi Ecodan, Daikin Altherma, Sanyo CO2 eco, LG Therma V, Panasonic Aquarea, Worcester bosch, Vaillant, etc. etc.
As pincher says, Solar PV can be added, but I would wait until the green loans or pay as you save scheme comes in.There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!
