Linksys router has intermitent connection to the internet

Hi all
WOndering if you can help: I'm using a Wireless Linksys-G kit to connect to my TalkTalk broadband connection (so not the 'official' TalkTalk modem/router).
At the moment the connection is fine, but that is not always the case, it is very intermitent.
When I double click the little wireless icon in the taskbar (Win XP) a window comes up which says that the laptop is connected to the access point, but that 'the internet cannot be found'.
I'm not sure what is causing this. I've tried unplugging and plugging back in the router, I've tried moving the router, I've tried checking the setings on the router, but there is no rhyme or reason as to why sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. Id like it to work all the time!
Any help would be most welcome
Thanks
Ian

Have you got any linksys software installed on your laptop? (a little green icon in the bottom right on your screen)Maybe you're the same as me, we see things they'll never see...0

When you have the problem, try connecting to 192.168.1.1 in explorer (I think that's the deafult IP for Linksys Routers.
That will narrow down whether your LAN router connection is the problem or whether it's your broadband.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -
Hi stevemcol and demonic
demonic - yes, I have the software installed, there is a green light.
stevemcol - I'll have a look at the LAN router through 192.168.1.1, but what should I look for?
Just to add further info: my telephone line is very crackly and 'hissy' if you know what I mean. Also, whem I pick the phone up that sometimes seems to cut the internet connection out.
It may be worth knowing that I have a microfilter fitted.
Thank you

Sorry to butt in folks but I'm experiencing the same symptoms with a linskys !
I find that it's o.k. during the day but after about 6 p.m. it can keep disconnecting after about 10 minutes. A bit like the old days of el cheapo dialup I.S.P.s. Being a technothicky, I thought that you were permanently connected on BB. Is it likely that you can be disconnected on a regular basis if traffic levels are high ? I.S.P. is Virgin (well N.T.L. really) if that makes any difference.0 -

does your laptop have wireless built in or are you using a usb adapter?
also what you said about the line disconnecting when you pick up the phone is unusual, it could be a faulty filter. If i were you i'd try another filter.Maybe you're the same as me, we see things they'll never see...0 -
No built in wireless - I'm using a card in the side of the laptop. Internet is working now - but I guess it won't for long!0

I had the same problem on my brother's pc connecting wirelessly to my router. I got rid of the linksys software and used windows xp's software instead. The connection still drops sometimes but usually connects again straight away and I no longer get the 'connected to the access point but internet not found' message.Maybe you're the same as me, we see things they'll never see...0 -
Thanks - so how do I that then? Is it simple?0

yep, and you can always just re-install the linksys software afterwards as long as you have the cd for it.
remove the linksys card and uninstall the linksys software. Put the software cd into the laptop, but when it asks you to install the software don't. Next time you insert the card and it asks you to install the driver it should give you an option to locate the driver. Make it search the cd and it should install it for you without the software.Maybe you're the same as me, we see things they'll never see...0 -
Will that uninstall the software for the card or for the router as well? Or is that a silly question?0
