Furniture left in repossessed property

Would you keep it?

The house is in a good state of repair but a friend has scared me a bit, saying she'd get rid of it all and then deep clean and practically fumigate the place!

Its sofas, dining furniture, wardrobes, drawers etc. Basically everything except the bed.

Depends what it was. If it was good quality I might.

Freecycle is your friend for getting rid of even junk.

It depends on the state of the furniture, but I'd give it all a damn good clean. To be fair, I've probably sat on worse sofas, eaten off worse dinig tables and hung my clothes in more manky wardrobes in rented accommodation over the years

Its not especially good quality, the place was rented out before so its just bog standard cheap flatpack stuff and fake leather sofas.

I think I'll just give it a good clean, it'll do for a bit until I've settled in and built the savings back up a bit!

I'm not sure what it could be harbouring though, bed bugs in the sofa?
  • I get a few flea bombs and set them off, just in case, and they are only a few quid each.

Nothing against the previous occupiers, but for a few quid why not?

    And keep the furniture
Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%

There's nothing wrong with it you big wuss.

If you'd rented it fully furnished you'd have been happy enough.

wuss - is an affectionate humourous term in my book, meant to get folks to stop taking themselvs so seriously (in this case the OP friend rather than the OP) rather than being offensive

    Don't worry, I'm not really offended! ;)

Flea-fogger-type thingys used for fumigation. Except most of them are ineffective, especially the ones bought in pet-shops. Anyone needing to use something for a pet-flea infestation would be better off
buying an environmental spray on prescription from a vet. Some Local Authorities carry this out FOC or for a reasonable charge.

I say, as the property has been empty for a while if there are fleas in there they would have made their presence felt almost as soon as someone went in the place. They're pretty hard to miss if they're jumping up onto your legs.

I'd keep the cheapo furniture until something better could be afforded.
