Ashford isn't know as Trashford by the locals without good reason. :D

OK. There's the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Village. Canterbury and the Cathedral is 30 minutes away. If you're a member of English Heritage then Deal, Walmer and Dover Castles are nearby. For Zoos there's Port Lympe near Hythe and Howletts near Canterbury. There's the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. Rye port is half an hour away and Hastings about 45 minutes. And Leeds Castle is 20 minutes up the motorway.

There isn't a lot of decent National Trust places around unless you travel to Bodiam Castle, Scotney Castle and the Sevenoaks area.

I like Ashford, perhaps I have poor tastes :D I like the shopping centre there (Chequers I think, never can remember even though I've been in the thing today lol), not too keen on the Outlet centre for clothing but I like to look at shoes and the like there. I was there today, Ashford I mean :) Rye is pretty and there is a market there on the Thursday if you like that type of thing.

Bodium Castle is worth a visit I think likewise Dover Castle.

  • what about something about 30 mins by car away from Ashford in case of emergencies but having something to do?

How about the Eurostar terminal just up the road :D. You could go to Lille, paris or brugges and you would be back quicker than sitting in the traffic back from canterbury.

Are you following him down than? I hope he does have a good time. I do like the idea of going to France for the day on the Eurostar so easy from Ashford.
