Cancelling Sky before the one year minimum contract?

Hi Everyone,

I've found out I need to be out of my flat in a couple of weeks (I found out last week, fought over it but theres no use). I currently have a Sky HD package with phone, broadband which I've had since May. I need to cancel it but I'm still in the first year of my contract.

I'm going back to my parents home, they already have Sky, so it's not like I can move it over to their house. The way my finances are it doesn't look as though I will be able to move out again until May/June next year.

Do you think if I tell Sky I've been given notice from my flat they will let me cancel? Are there any ways around this?

Thanks for any advice!

  • Doubt it, a contract is a contract and as soon as you signed up you were committed to paying them 10*12 = £120, now they'll ask for 7*10 = £70 when you cancel. I've assumed the only new contract you signed was for the HD portion?
  • Doubt you can cancel, but why not take your sky box and have your own sky subscription in your room running off your parents dish. If you are paying, you might as well keep use it somehow. - Or you could ask them (no harm in trying) if they can freeze your subscription until you get a new place.

You don't have to leave in two weeks. You should of been given 2 months notice not just 3 weeks. So me personally I'd be staying in the property as long as possible waiting until it went through court and the bailiffs were at the door. That should take a few months.
