Doesn't matter too much how it looks IMO.... its the taste ;)

Oooh - we were having a discussion about toad in th'ole last night..... any tips for a Yorkshire Pudding amateur? :D

Errr.....crossed fingers works for me.....sometimes. Failing that, try handing over a spoon with an expression on your face that says "Yes, I know that batter is still liquid - but you're not getting anything else, so eat up!" :D

I use my Nan's method - so crack an egg into a bowl or jug. Whisk in as much plain flour as it will take - it's about right when you are physically unable to whisk any more. Gradually add milk or milk & water and whisk to smooth. The consistency is about right when it feels and looks a bit like the consistency of double cream. Leave it to stand for an hour or so, ideally.

The trick for cooking it seems to be a very hot oven, and resisting the temptation to open the oven door for the first 15 minutes or so of cooking. If I'm doing toad then I put a dish in the oven with some oil in first, and leave to get hot, then add the sausages and cook until they are starting to brown, then pour the batter around them - you'll hear it start to sizzle if the fat is hot enough!

If it doesn't work though, it's not my fault. Try blaming the oven, that usually works for me! :o:D

    a Yorkshire method for Yorkies.....
put an egg or two in a jug, make mental note of the level reached.
empty and put milk in jug to same level as above
empty, rinse, dry, add plain flour to same level as above
    empty
mix all together with leccy whisk.
No need to let this mix stand before cooking
melt some oil/lard in tins until very hot, pour in batter mix and then put in oven at highest temp for about 15-20 mins depending on the size of the yorkshire you're cooking.

Hope this helps, and counts as my entrance fee to Jo's diner :)

sorry i couldn't make it to the curry, i've only had one curry in brick lane before and it was fab. (outlaws live in bethnal green), just didn't have enough notice and hadn't prepared OH for me being away that much longer. maybe sometime soon as i think we're heading to the outlaws in Nov, or def at christmas

    :eek::eek::eek: Oh Yukk!!!

I had a bowl of porage with banana and was just thinking what I might snack on for lunch until I read that! Suddenly I don't fancy food any more.

We have just had very interesting lunch :o

    Take some:
    - left over mash
    - left over boiled broccoli
    - left over cheese sauce
    - tin of canneloni beans
    - frozen peas
    - some cream cheese

Mix in a pan on the hob and serve with some roasted parsnips.

(Would probably look a bit more appetising if baked in oven with a cheese or breadcrumb topping)
