How about the EGR valve?
They recirculate exhaust gas into the engine to reduce emissions and on all Vauxhalls they get clogged up with crap, which causes lumpy running and stalling on the idle.
Ir probably wont throw up and error code in the ECU, so inexperience VX technicians won't be able to spot it.
New one may be expensive, they can be cleaned..... But they are best blanked off completely.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

My own experience with the EGR valve was that a MAF sensor fault was logged in the memory. It also lit the engine management light.
It was normally most noticable approaching/slowing for a junction causing the car to cut out.
Ok, it was a 2.0 Vectra, older engine etc but just my tuppence worth.
Have you searched yahoo groups for a decent forum? When I say decent, I mean more specialist.
Most of my info came from a Vauxhall Omega forum when i had an Omega and the vectra.
Not only will there be people that have probably had the same fault, chances are there will be a tech or 2 on there as well.0 -
I have a v reg 1.8 zafira that will lose power after about 20 odd miles for no apparent reason. It then cuts out before I can then restart and drive off but continues this for the rest of the journey. Garage can't find anything on diagnostic. Would the causes mentioned be the same for this0

I would just say get it checked BUT be prepared for problems. My Mervia 03 reg started jerking had it checked it was the egr and the coil pack £200 later, and 1 day later started jerking again, Back to garage, this time throtle sensor and accerlorater sensor Looking at £350 repairs. Then the owner droped a bombshell, he has seen this happen several times, each time one or 2 faults, repaired then another couple of faults, they repair that then more.... Eventually after replacing everything it turns out to be the CPU costing abput £500 plus fitting and reprogramming. Since we where saving up for a newer bigger car we VT our hp with the meriva. Untill saved up I am running an old N reg astra, and its great no probs, and no computer yeah0

Thanks guys.
It was the EGR valve and it was replaced..light came on again a few days later so it went back in and turns out the valve they put in was faulty..was replaced again yesterday with a genuine vauxhall one and seems so far so good although not driven much so will see how it goes..won't hold my breath though!
Thanks x0
