Mikey thanks.
Well it has been great since we got it and i have done just under 500 miles in it with no worries BUT the fuel smell is a bit worrying. Like i said it jutted a bit this morning and i thought 'god am i in the wrong gear' but nope it was obviously going then..as soon as i stopped it shut down so was so scared to stop again..luckily the lights were freen at the next set so i zoomed home!
Hope they can fix it without bankrupting us! x0 -
Wev'e only had it about 2 weeks:( Bought privately from someone down the rd.
It couldn't have happened anywhere worse..right on the main junction at peak traffic time and as the lights went to chnage the whole car just made that shutting down noise..i looked at the dash and all lights were on and it wouldn't restart. I tried a couple of times and managed to get it home but was really shakey as have never broken down before.
There was a strongish smell of petrol the other day which i mentioned to dh who said he couldn't smell anything so i left it maybe thinking it was me. This morning i was driving back from school and it felt as if the fuel wasn't feeding through properly..slightly jerky at times when driving. Not sure if this has anything to do with it but?
Have it booked in friday morning and they are coming to collect it so i don't have to risk not making it there!
Any ideas on probs with fuel as such if it is that? (and being female no i haven't put the wrong fuel in!)
Thanks x
i doubt it is cam or crank sensor fault as these normally put engine in limp mode with a max rpm of 3500 with EML on.
i have had similar to this before on vauxhalls with the coolant temp sensor giving duff readings so keeping cold start enrichment on effectively flooding the engine.
other possibles are coil pack, maf or o2 sensor.
plugging tech2 in on snapshot will give an idea of a poor performing sensor and a code if one is logged.0 -
Well the garage collected it this morning and it is apparantly fine. They checked the fuel etc and said it was all ok and said the only thing was it smelt of oil when starting up and they didn't know why. Any ideas guys?
Anyway they say ok to drive so?
Thanks will hope it keeps going! x0 -
Thanks.
One reason i bought it privatly was the fact it had excellent service history.
With..... A dealership per chance?
Probably has all the stamps you could wish for, but has never had an oil change in it's life.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

No it is not OK. Take it to a good, local independent to scan it and go from there. The fault might be intermittent but it hasn't cured itself.0

I have twice now and it has been hooked up and checked on the machine and nothing. A friend says it may be a sensor on the engine which tells it it is over heating which makes it cut out..not sure if this is right but its booked in again this friday so will mention. been ok since last posting when it happened!0 -
Please take the car to a good independent. A scanner or code reader is of no use to someone who thinks if they hook it up and it says no code stored or pending = no fault, is someone you don't want to be looking after your car.
Really hesitate to remotely diagnose, but a vauxhall not throwing up cam/crank sensor faults and no misfire codes, I would be testing/substituting the MAF.
I appreciate the garage are looking for an intermittent fault but they have had two goes now, so why pay them for a third "go".0 -
First thing I would check is the battery leads and see if they're loose.Have had a couple of cars cut out from bad connections.Even if its not that it won't do it any harm to clean them uo and make sure they're nice and tight.0

Crank position sensors are common faults on Vauxhalls of most ages, especially with Ecotec petrol models...By the way, what does df mean? I'm sure I've seen it a bit sinse joining the forum, but I'm at a loss...Or am I being silly?0
