Withdrawing large-ish amount of money

Hi
I just wondered whether it was easy enough to withdraw a large-ish sum of money from your current account, over the counter.
I want to withdraw £1000- 1500 from an HSBC current account. The money is to pay a tradesman.
I'm guessing i need additional ID or something...

You'll likely need some ID, but to be honest the amount you're withdrawing isn't that big. Take your debit card and some photo ID - you might not need both, but you might as well have it just in case they ask.0

HSBC are rather quaint, and only allow counter withdrawals in the form of 'cashing a cheque'. So you will need your chequebook, card and a piece of ID to do this. Otherwise no problem.0

They may have a daily cash withdrawal limit within the branch? The halifax do (unless pre-ordered). With the Halifax the max withdrawal is £1200 over the counter.0

I withdrew £3,500 from HSBC branch to buy a new car. Just took my debit card and my drivers licence. But they asked stuff like branch sort code, address, account number, which I knew anyway.0

Will you not need to pre order it as already said?
Not sure about HSBC but another bank I bank with needs notice if you want more than £250 cash.0 -
Nationwide limited me to £800 in a day, Abbey the same. Lloyds however let me withdraw £4k without even ID hehe.0

Personally I'd just withdraw it over a couple of days. If you go to the branch and a cash machine you'd get that sum quite quickly, its easier if its a joint accountMixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0

Please be extra cautious and take someone with you if possible. A good friend of mine's Father was robbed by a distraction type gang after withdrawing £1500 in Harrow last year.
He made the cash withdrawl, put the money in an inside pocket and went on his way. A few minutes later someone approached him and said there was tomato sauce all over his jacket, (obviously sprayed just before), and started to wipe it, soon joined by another person. Before he knew it the people were gone along with the money.
This means that there were people in the branch watching him, so please watch your back.Pants0 -

Very good idea post 10, there's nothing worse than someone shouting OK SO THAT's FIVE THOUSAND YOU WANT. Then expecting to count it out in front of a fairly long queue.Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0
