I think that as your shortfall is only £200, I'd be inclined to put that amount (not the whole balance  as you might just spend the money you've saved up) on your credit card - rather than lose the £450 deposit.

However, are you absolutely sure that you will have enough for spends by the time your holiday comes around?
Prices on cruises can be high.

Your income has already changed which has caused this shortfall in the balance.
Is there a good chance of that happening again?
If so, you might be better cancelling now and losing the deposit rather than losing more money further down the line.

    Difficult decision for you.

Your TA will require the full balance by the due date

They wont give you any grace, they will stick to the terms and conditions on the tour operator

You best bet is to look into cancelling this holiday now before you reach further fees

This is not true for all travel agents. We went on holiday with a group last year booked through Thomas Cook and one person was 2 weeks late in paying the balance they owed (they forgot). We didnt even receive a letter to notify us of the missing payment.

Phone the travel agent and see what they say. Worst case pay with your credit card.

No spends will be fine, we have on board credit and trips already paid for . Also the money we have been sainging will go towards spends in December, January , February and March.

This is our 4th cruise and believe me they can be less expensive than you think once onboard, also only one person who drinks alcohol which is where the money goes onboard lol
    Thanks for replies everyone
    TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T
  • If it means losing your deposit, then stick the shortfall on your credit card;)
Who are you booked with? Reason I ask is that we had a holiday booked through Virgin, had pay £330 deposit, but had to cancel. They issued me with a 're-book discount voucher' to the value of £300 against any holiday booked (not necessarily taken), during the next 12 months.
Have to admit, I was quite impressed....

    What a load of rubbish.:(

If the holiday has been booked in a shop its almost definite they'll give you some grace on paying the balance, if its booked on the net or by phone it could be more difficult. If its a shop you have 2 choices either tell them now what you think you could be short and when you can pay by or wait till the balance is due and then say that you are short and then tell them when you can pay by, im sure they'll be reasonable because the money is collected earlier than it is actually needed. What you want to know is when do you actually lose more than the deposit if you default on paying, all companies are different but usually at 10weeks before travel its loss of deposit only, 8 weeks to 10 weeks 50%, 6 to 8 weeks 75% etc etc these are only examples not necessarily for your company. So for instance if you had paid 75% of the holiday cost the travel agent wouldnt lose any money until less than 6 weeks before so they would probably give you some grace. Its much more beneficial to do this than have to cancel a booking and lose the sale and an unhappy customer who probably wont do business with you again.
  • I would say it would be worth asking for a few weeks grace from the Travel Agent. My daughter paid for her holiday in May BEFORE the due date (I know, but she will learn soon enough!) and then had a letter about 2 months after the due date saying if you don't pay soon we will have to cancel!! Sorted that out, though unfortunately a few weeks later a letter came due to the Kiss Flights thing! That holday was fated! Had to lend her the money to rebook until the money comes back from holiday company.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
