11 weeks to pay holiday

I have 11 weeks left to get rest of holiday money together.
Cost £2831

Deposit £450
Saved £1251
Balance £1030  ( Will have £820 of this saved by due date )

We booked this holiday about march for next march, but have had a change of income so have not been able to put as much away towards is as hoped. Instead of the £300 we hoped to pay this month could only do £100.

I am unsure of going now due to money and think we may be about £210 short of money to pay holiday, if we are will have to pay this from a credit card short term until end of December

Spending money will be ok by time we go as money we have been saving towards holiday will then go towardsspends.

so unsure what to do .........

Cancel and lose the £450 and dissapoint stepdaughter who is going with us
Make up the shortfall on credit card

Just wondered what others would do in situation. Really ahve nothing we can cut back on to make up the shortfall :(

If we cancel the holiday we will lose the £450 deposit and not sure if we can maybe change to another day. I have a feeling that changing is treated as a cancellation and we will lose the deposit anyway .

  • If you have a credit card that you can fund the shortfall on, i'd do that personally. Losing £450 seems silly if the funds are accessible elsewhere.

Are you planning to spend a lot on Xmas? That's the first place I'd cut back.

Well if you cancel you lose £450

If you pay the £210 or whatever by credit card you lose whatever fee is charged for using it plus interest until it's paid off. Unless you take years to pay it off that's never going to be anywhere near £450.

    So use the card

Your TA will require the full balance by the due date

They wont give you any grace, they will stick to the terms and conditions on the tour operator

You best bet is to look into cancelling this holiday now before you reach further fees

Why would she cancel when she can get the funds from elsewhere?

There would be no fees apart from losing deposit as long as I can before the 12 december .

Oh sorry so your balance due date is the 11th Dec

Can you not ammend the holiday to another bringing the cost down?

Who have you booked through and is it a package holiday?

yes balance due in 11 weeks. it is a fly/cruise and cheapest date so unless we changed it to end of season would not drop price, plus since we booked even our date has increased. Looking in brochure seems if I change date is treated as cancellation anyway so would still lose the £450 .

Thanks for the help, guess will just have to beg, borrow or steal the extra £200 I will be short or cancel and lose the £450. Think I will just put it on CC
