My council collect green waste in plastic bags you get from them. I got 12 bags ready for pick up tomorrow

I am not sure you can claim of council they seem a law until themselves all you can do is complain.
  • We have:

Black Bin - General waste, collect fortnightly
Grey Bin - Biodegradable, cardboard and garden waste, collect on the alternate fortnight to the black bin
Blue box - Cans, glass and plastics, collected with grey bin
Red box - Paper only collected with blue and grey.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Since we are comparing bins and they're uses, we have a

black bin which is used for general waste and collected every other week
a green bin for garden waste which collected the opposite week to the black bin
a green box for glass jars/bottles, cans, paper, newspaper
a brown caddy for food waste

Agree with PP. We have a 3 bin system and our brown bin is for garden waste but is only emptied on a 4 weekly cycle.

I assumed the OP's green bin was my brown one IYSWIM?

Our brown is for garden waste, green bin is for landfill waste and our blue one is for plastic, cardboard and paper. We also have a black bucket thats for glass, clothing, batteries and small electrical (cos you wanted to know all that :A :rotfl:)

Our council is really good actually. You can put anything you like in the green one, have it overflowing and face the handle anywhere you please and they still empty it.

  • Thanks for replies.

Just to clarify, it is Sandwell Council and it applies to a large number of properties, or so it seems. When complaining there was a standard reply as follows:-

"We would like to thank residents for their patience over bin collections over the last several weeks. Some householders have unfortunately suffered delays in getting their rubbish picked up, due to collectors staging an unofficial go slow.

Our advice to householders continues: put your rubbish out at the kerbside on your scheduled collection days, as collections are not being made from property frontages. If it is not collected as normal, please leave it where it is and we will endeavour to pick it up as soon as possible.

Some garden waste and recycling collections may be missed and householders affected by this are advised to put out their green bins on their next scheduled collection day. "

Anyway, my bin "should" be emptied this Thursday. It has been at the front of the property for a month, hope I can stand it upright again as it was turned over by somebody a few days ago!!

I wouldn't mind so much if it was possible to leave extra green waste in plastic bags, but they'll only empty wheelie bins, with lids closed of course.

your council tax is just that, a tax, not a charge so you have no right to a refund.
